Logging into the forum
« on: December 02, 2011, 05:17:PM »
Good afternoon all

Is it possible, when logging into the forum, instead of specifying how many minues you wish to be logged in, could that facility be withdrawn, so that you are logged in until such time as you log out?

Does that make sense?

Thankyou.

I have never experienced what you describe when logging into the forum, even before being made a moderator/administrator.  Unless anyone else is experiencing the same as you I suspect this must result from settings in your own PC.  Perhaps one of the IT experts on the forum can help?

If this is a forum issue we will have a look at the settings and see if we can change them.

Many thanks ngb1066. I run Linux rather than Windows, that may have something to do with it.....

I do experience it as do many other posters (I assumed).  The reason I assumed this is because I sometimes enjoy watching posters get timed out before they have managed to finish whichever post they are attempting to send.  Childish of me I know.

When you log in, you do have a box to say how long you should stay logged in for, the default is 60 minutes, but you can change that to anything or even forever.

I think it just means if you are logged in and idle for that long then you need to re-enter password.

Theres also another option to always stay logged in, which is what I use.

Unless I'm misunderstanding of course?

I have never seen that box.  Is it something generated by the forum software or by the user's?

Rochford, you wicked, wicked man!

Hartley, when I log in, I just add two zeros after the 60, so that I know that it will not "time out".  But rather than a time limit, I wondered if it could be replaced with just logging in, username and password, and being logged in for as long as needed until such time as you log out.

I never log out. So as long as I don't delete my browser cache I am already logged in when I come to the forum.

It may be to do with your browser then if you are running linux, I'm not sure.

In windows explorer & and firefox there is a drop down arrow to change the time to 'forever', then it behaves as you describe, staying logged in until you manually log out. That's what I do and from the sounds of it what Grahame does also.

I just need to google JB forum, click on it, and I'm here.  Am I supposed to log out?  I hope not as I can't remember what my password would be, if I had to log in.  :-[
