This really is shocking. I have a few contacts in footy, lower grade people but this has shocked everyone. He is thought of in the highest terms by everyone he has ever come in contact with.

My condolences are with his family and friends. My memories are with the great first Premier Division Champions Leeds United and their mix of Wilkinson favourites like Mel Sterland and Lee' wife beater' Chapman. Speed was a pivotal member of a team that played in a league of teams that didn't have a left winger. (Before Giggs) Not one opposing player or fan could be found to find fault in such a selfless sportsmen as Gary Speed. RIP.

Good post si, chapman the wife beater! My dad said he was a cart horse, he didnt rate him.

Am i right in thinking that Gary Speed did some modelling in his days while at leeds?
But yes a big shock, poor fella. Something was obviously bothering him, whatever it was must have been catastrophic in speeds mind to lead his suicide, but what?

Was he doing well as manager of Wales?

I didn't know till yesterday who he was as I know nothing about football.  The male members of my family were shocked and saddened by the news of his death.  The question on everyone's lips will be why.  My thoughts are with his family, friends and fans who will be affected by his death.  :(
