Greetings
« on: August 16, 2011, 12:15:AM »

Hello all

I've been lurking for some time and have to commend this site for the sheer depth of information available and the mature nature of debate (at least usually) on the forum.

I've been interested in this case for many years even though the killings occurred when I was just under 6 years old.  I guess my mother is to blame as we have both always shared an interest in true crime and spent many days discussing well-known cases including this one, which always stood out in my mums memory.

I look forward to joining in the discussion and hopefully posting a few topics of my own which may or may not hold any interest.

Finally thanks to Mike for allowing access to so much information and letting people debate it freely on the forum.

PS  a bit of random/selective background about me and possible reasons for interest in this case;

I worked for some time at the Old Bailey as a court reporter, it was fascinating and allowed me to see a prosecution team requesting PII in judges chambers amongst other things.  I studied forensic science at university, it was fascinating and allowed me to see how some truly evil murderers were caught, specifically the forensic aspects of many high profile (and unknown) cases.  I currently work as a civillian for a well known police force but not in any forensic capacity!  Lets just say i've been EXTREMELY BUSY the last week and  due to the nature of my job I am unable to log in regularly so my comments may be sporadic.  My partner has bi-polar and has just recently recovered from a period of illness, and I may post (if permitted) some personal experiences of a loved one with a mental illness, to offer some personal insights (been lurking too long... I sound like Mike!).  I should make clear that none of the above makes me an expert in any given field, it just means i understand how little I acutally know  ;)

Of course I will be more than willing to answer, where possible, any questions I can relating to any of the experiences listed above.

Hi Niktendo,

Welcome to the Jeremy Bamber forum. You sound interesting! Please do tell us of your experiences of PII, I'm sure a number of us would be very interested in that.

Hi Niktendo,

Welcome to the Jeremy Bamber forum. You sound interesting! Please do tell us of your experiences of PII, I'm sure a number of us would be very interested in that.

One particular successful PII request I witnessed whilst working at court involved the methods used by police to obtain some specific recording evidence in a prosecution.  They successfully argued that this was a closely guarded investigative secret and to disclose its methodology in open court would mean the subjects of this type of investigation becoming aware of the technique and allowing them to modify their behaviour and render it obsolete, jeopardising numerous ongoing investigations.  The judge was advised of the method and the prosecution were allowed to use the gathered material in evidence but did not disclose how it was obtained.

I believe present were just the prosecution, 2 police representatives, the judge and I.
