Podcast today
« on: May 27, 2026, 02:17:PM »
This podcast today about the media blackout imposed on Jeremy Bamber is excellent and very informative: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/double-jeopardy-uk-law-and-politics/id1633485236?i=1000769753052

It includes ex-DPP Ken Macdonald KC, Tim Owen KC, Simon Hattenstone of the Guardian and former prison Governor John Podmore.  It is well worth listening to throughout.

Hatterstone says for years he's been denied an in-person interview with Bamber - apparently this is illegal but no legal action seems to have been taken. All very strange.

Seems KM KC has something in common with JB:

During his time at Oxford he was convicted of supplying cannabis after sending 0.1g of the drug through the post. He pleaded guilty, and was fined £75.

KM KC said DI Ron 'bungling' Cook destroyed/burned lots of exhibits pre-trial but afaik nothing of evidential value was destroyed pre-trial?  I disagree DI Cook was bungling.  I think given the circumstances and by the standards of the day everything of evidential value was preserved.

Post trial and pre 2002 CoA hearing exhibits were destroyed by Essex police:

In February 1996, the Essex police destroyed many of the original trial exhibits without reference to Jeremy or his legal representatives. It might have been necessary for this court to examine the circumstances in which this had happened. The police officer responsible contended that it was done without his appreciating that there was any on-going legal process that might require the further use of the exhibits. However, during argument it was agreed that the court could protect Jeremy’s position by making assumptions in his favour and that, therefore, it was unnecessary to resolve precisely how this came about.

Jeremy Bamber has spent 25 years
behind bars for murdering his family.
He has always denied he did it — and
believes shocking new evidence could
prove his innocence. For the first time
the Ministry of Justice has allowed
him to give a face-to-face interview.

David James Smith visits him at his
high-security prison to unravel the
truth behind that fateful night

Wouldn't Bamber be better saving his money for the judicial review against the CCRC?

The usual fayre, promoted by do-gooders, who have probably never experienced trauma such as the White House murders first hand, hoodwinked by a master conman, who has had nothing else to do for forty years save to get his kicks by hoodwinking the gullible, including the late Eric Allison, attracted and duped by the false glamour of the case. The podcast is cleverly arranged by introducing two genuine miscarriages of justice, incredibly rare events, then before one knows it the Bamber case is slid into the reckoning, some mistakes by Essex Police interspersed with false innuendo about chair scrapings and a David Boutflour interview, whilst making light of the pain felt by those badgered by journalist tactics and who are left behind.

One mistake he makes is to claim Julie threatened him about sleeping with Liz Rimington. It just wasn't that kind of relationship between Julie and Jeremy, as those who are familiar with the case will know.
