I thought DB seemed somewhat anxious?  He always makes a point of saying how JM did not say anything to him when they went to The Chequers to collect lunch. 

Yes now you have mentioned it I can hear PE with a Norman Tebbit type accent.  Can imagine PE telling others to get on their bike too. 

Perhaps AE telling HB she was going for a swin in the river was a coded message to meet her there?

It did seem rather strange. I think swimming in the river is out these days, due to Weil's disease. It makes me nostalgic for the 1970s.

Open water swimming is big around here.  It doesn't appeal to me but even in private health clubs the chances of picking up athletes foot or fungal nail infection are high.  Unless you have your own private pool you are likely to pick something up
