I think it was way over the top in terms of sentencing. The government is looking to remove custodial sentences in some instances following the review by David Gauke. I do not know what the sentencing guidance was for her offence. I think the Judge was more concerned by the prevailing environment of heightened racial tension and thought he would 'send a message' which was IMO misplaced and actually has made matters worse.

Do away with short sentences altogether and have prison for the only most dangerous offenders.

Repeat offenders doing life in prison on the installment plan is s complete and utter waste of time. Some guy up my way was jailed for 8 weeks for shoplifting a few weeks ago. Just a waste of taxpayers money. And there's no punitive element to a seasoned criminal.

I think this is posted in the wrong section. By the way, I note a couple of changes NGB1066 has made to the site: Lucy Letby now has her own domain, and Other High Profile Cases has just become Other for some reason.

When requested we normally create a new board for a specific case and have separate threads within it, particularly when there is a lot of interest in the case.  The renaming of the general board within Other High Profile Cases was simply to avoid repetition.
