The sea wall seems to be designated as a footpath - rather than a bridleway or byway open to all traffic. However I would not necessarily say this means it's not suitable for bicycles.
Believe he testified the bike was brought over for Julie to cycle to a gym. He did not say which one. Julie has never said this. The nearest big towns which may have had gyms in 1985 were Colchester & Chelmsford. Which were both over 10 miles away. Tollshunt Major & D'arcy are the other nearest villages. They are between 1.5 & 2.5 miles away as the crow flies. Both are small so doubtful they had gyms then. He later said it was for Julie to cycle to a bus station when going home.
Maldon has gyms. Also, gymnastic classes are held in village halls.
It may have been a ladies aerobics class.
The bicycle might be a red-herring. Goldhanger - WHF walkable in an hour for a fit young man.
Why would he walk when he could cycle? Wilkinson said he could not walk across the fields. So it would have to be walking one of the cycle routes.
Have you seen any evidence of anyone saying JB obtained June's bike for JM to get to and from a gym?
