Complete waste of time to say JB could not have walked, jogged, run, cycled from GH to WHF and back during the hours of darkness when clearly he could have done:

It never gets truly "pitch black" at night primarily due to atmospheric scattering of sunlight and artificial light. Even after the sun sets, sunlight continues to scatter through the atmosphere and reflect off air molecules, dust, and humidity, keeping the sky faintly lit. Additional factors include artificial light pollution and faint cosmic background radiation.

Key reasons for the lack of complete darkness:
Atmospheric Scattering: Sunlight continues to hit the atmosphere and scatter in all directions, causing a twilight effect even after the sun is below the horizon.

Light Pollution: Streetlights, city lights, and suburban haze create "skyglow," which makes the night sky look brighter, especially near populated areas.

Natural Light Sources: Light from the moon, stars, the Milky Way, and zodiacal light (sunlight reflecting off interplanetary dust) contributes to the background brightness.

High Latitude Locations: In summer, places closer to the poles do not experience true darkness because the sun does not drop far enough below the horizon.

Atmospheric Composition: Dust and water vapor in the air can catch and reflect light, acting like a faint "lampshade" in the atmosphere.
Even on a "dark" night, the air itself emits a faint glow due to photochemical reactions, ensuring the night is rarely completely pitch black.

August would also be lighter.

People get carried away. Before they know where they are, being outside at night is literally being blind folded.

the moon rose at about 11pm on the evening of 6th August 1985. Even if had been cloudy it still would have provided enough light for Jeremy to see where he was going

Exactly. Believe that Rob & ILB will always say being outside in the dark is like being blind folded.

It's unusual for you to post a complete load of poorly researched rubbish Cc

Just so you know we get astronomical darkness when the sun sets more than 18 degrees below the horizon.

On such nights if it is clear I will be out in my garden with a torch setting up my telescope, and I do need a torch despite knowing my garden pretty well.

Obviously Bamber could go on foot, but cycling full pelt along a narrow path with steep falls either side I don't think so.

So he had time to walk. But would be cycling 'full pelt'.

There are no steep falls. A path does not need to be wide. A bike's wheels are a few inches.

Well at 12mph he would be covering 10 meters in around 1.5 ish seconds. how does he avoid pot holes ruts etc. in total darkness? Are you saying he can see 20 - 30 metres ahead? In those days the sea wall according to locals was rough.

There are no pot holes. Have you not watched the multiple videos?

The Sea Wall is a cycle path. Pages Lane is a road built for motor vehicles.

When were the videos taken? Locals at the time said the sea wall was rough and were surprised Bamber never got a puncture.

The sea wall was only part of the route anyway.

I don't wish to sound rude Rob but you are sounding like a massive girls blouse over this.  JB was a fit 24 year old farmer and afaik had good eyesight.  He was not an 84 year old with restricted mobility and failing eyesight.  Getting from GH to WHF and back again whether it be by foot and/or cycling was doable.  And in any event there are far more compelling aspects of the propsecution case than this.

Please provide sources.

Wilkinson's WS says it was good terrain. Which was not disputed at trial.

The sea wall seems to be designated as a footpath - rather than a bridleway or byway open to all traffic. However I would not necessarily say this means it's not suitable for bicycles.

Rob said he is 6.4. Has always said he would not be able to restrain Sheila or cycle to/from WHF. Now saying the route may have 'pot holes'. He should try joining the millions of cyclists around London.

Heard that Sly wants him for the next Expendables film.
