Here is a document about the  destruction of evidence (exhibits).

Does this establish that "Special Branch" were involved in destruction of evidence in this case? I would say this is a wild exaggeration.

I believe these items were destroyed because the CPIA act was about to come into force.

This would then have meant articles such as Sheila's nightdress would have to be retained, then sooner or latter technology would have decided the case one way or the other.

According to CoA, EP was responsible for destroying many of the original trial exhibits:

165. In February 1996, the Essex police destroyed many of the original trial exhibits without reference to the appellant or his legal representatives. It might have been necessary for this court to examine the circumstances in which this had happened. The police officer responsible contended that it was done without his appreciating that there was any on-going legal process that might require the further use of the exhibits. However, during argument it was agreed that the court could protect the appellant's position by making assumptions in his favour and that, therefore, it was unnecessary to resolve precisely how this came about.

Why would Special Branch be involved?  SB is part of MET?

Complete exaggeration. They were destroyed by EP due to the fact that the case was not deemed live ( an appeal had been thrown out in 89)

If that was the case they would have destroyed the sound moderator also.

If I remember correctly, JB had requested access to these exhibits in 1993.
