Nevill never got the chance to reach any rifle or shotgun in Nevill's den, because he was mortally wounded and out of it by then.

Well he got downstairs while Bamber was shooting June upstairs.

Nevill must have been so badly injured he travelled slowly which allowed Bamber to catch him. So surprised he felt Nevill needed such a forceful and prolonged beating.

A risk letting Nevill go downstairs while he shoots June. But Nevill didn't make it to a weapon.

Overriding point for me Hardy is that I don't believe SB and JM are truthful witnesses, doesn't make Bamber innocent but their statements can be taken apart easily in my opinion.
