Third paragraph. Because the accused is supposed to have made a suicidal journey in the pitch black over acres of farmland in the middle of the night on a ladies bike with no lighting whatsoever.

The prosecution case is he cycled The Sea Wall. On the bike he stole 2 days earlier. Lots of advantages -

Good terrain.

Good vision.

Flat terrain.

Passing no properties.

4.2 miles.

He lived 5 minutes from it.

He grew up 5 minutes from it.

He worked 5 minutes from it.

Would not be physically tiring.

I don't believe the defence challenged the journey. It would just mean them digging a hole for themselves. Ditto the windows.

They focused more on Julie's & SB's minor cheque book fraud. Which was about 2 years earlier.
