The following are crimes JB and JM were involved with:

JB                                                                          JM

OCP burglary                                                           OCP burglary

Possession, production and selling of cannabis            *Possession, *production and selling of cannabis

                                                                              Cheque book fraud

*Afaik no on the record evidence exists JM was found in possession?  But I have always thought DS Jones used this angle off the record to get witnesses on board.  I believe in her wit stats she refers to watering JB's cannabis plants which could count as production.  Certainly her wit stats refer to selling on campus.

Big question is this...why was possession, production and selling of cannabis not referred to at trial?

Just remembered either JM's or SB's wit stats refer to having JB's homegrown cannabis in their shared house so this would be treated as possession.

We know the authorities were aware of JM's involvement with drugs as Mr D C Adams from the DPP's office refers to such:

https://jeremybamberforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,1388.0.html

Interestingly he does not refer to the cheque book fraud!?  Just OCP burglary and drugs.

Don't believe the chequebook fraud involved Jez.

Was the defence aware of JM's, and other witnesses, involvement with possession, production and selling of illegal drugs/cat B?

Was it written off as quid pro quo given JB was also involved?  If this was the case then why treat OCP burglary differently?  The difference being only JB and JM were involved with OCP whereas numerous others were involved/potentially involved with possession, production and selling of cannabis/cat B.

Who was involved with possession, production and selling of cannabis/cat B:

JB
JM - prosecution wit.  Called
MM - prosecution wit.  Called
Christine Bacon - prosecution wit.  Called
Suzette Ford - not called.  Based in Jersey at time of murders/trial.  Difficult to put frighteners on.
Susan Battersby - prosecution wit.  Not called
Charles Marsden - prosection wit.  Not called
Liz Rimmington - prosecution wit.  Not called?
James Richard - prosecution wit.  Called
Malcolm Waters ?

Could explain how DS Jones was able to get prosecution witnesses on board.

Why should it be?

Surprised the judge let the defence bring up the minor cheque book fraud. It was nothing to do with the massacre and committed over 2 years earlier. She had also paid the money back.

But the defence did find her WS strong so had to try other tactics.

The caravan break in should have been mentioned at trial. As it relates to the massacre.

The judge in his summing up did say both of them had committed other crimes. But that does mean either lied at trial.

He also said Julie had paid back the money, Bamber hadn't for the caravan break in.

He also said Bamber trusted her enough to involve her in the caravan break in. So may have trusted her enough to involve her in the massacre.

Suppose the same could be said for the cheque book fraud. Julie trusted Bamber enough to tell him about it. Bamber would have felt there was enough trust between them both.

Bamber may have felt Julie would be scared to approach the police as he knew about her 3 other crimes.

Although his main tactic would have been to say if she approached the police she would be implicating herself & not believed.

All strong reasons considering the media were treating it as murder/suicide.

So why incl OCP and excl cannabis?

The DPP made the decision to not prosecute her for the offences disclosed against her.  Instead using her as a prosecution witness.  Of course the jury needed to be made aware of this.
