What actually happened?

(1) Campaign Team claim: ACC Simpson let it slip in the press, in September 1985, that a "silencer was found on the day of the killings" which proves that this was a different silencer to the one which the relatives claim they found on the 10th August.

(2) ACC Simpson did actually say that a "silencer was found on the day of the killings" but this was just him being absent minded or perhaps if the work and investigation was being done by people under him, he was unfamiliar with some of the details (such as who found it and when).

(3) ACC Simpson did not say that. He actually said "at an early stage in the investigation" (i.e. 10th August).

Discuss.
