I just look at the numbers a fast walk is around 4mph, jogging takes that up to 6mph.

Cycling would easily beat this but I don't believe you would achieve even 10mph in total darkness.

Cycling is not 5 times faster than walking, unless you are doing 20mph and no chance of doing this in the dark on rough terrain.

Believe he would have built up a good pace. If he wanted to.

There was no traffic or traffic lights. Good, wide and flat terrain.

The only obstacles were two waist high styles.

The Sea Wall journey was 4.2 miles. Bamber told Julie he thought it would take 15 minutes.

To walk The Sea Wall route would take well over 1 hour. It would be very tiring.

The only way he would choose walking over cycling is if there was a direct straight line route across fields.

This would have to take less than 20 minutes. Otherwise cycling is a quicker and less tiring option.

If on foot you would not go via the sea wall, but a young fit guy I would expect to to do the sea wall route in under a hour, not much longer anyway.

If Bamber cycles the route in 15 minutes he would have to average 17 miles per hour totally impossible in the dark. This is 8 metres per second no way sorry.

Walking in a straight line is 2.1 miles.

That is going across 12 fields.

Doubtful all those fields would be accessible to walk over. While others would not be ideal to walk on.

So a generous estimate is walking would be 2.7 miles.

Quicker and less tiring to cycle.

I agree quicker but I suspect not by much, much safer to take a more direct route on foot following hedge lines etc.

Safeness is the same. Cycling or walking avoids all properties.

'According to data gathered in a 2019 scientific study, it takes the average person 15-22 minutes to walk one mile.'

---------

Walking 2.7 miles would take between 40 minutes to 1 hour.

This is being generous, as some of the field terrain would slow him down.

There and back, very tiring and time consuming.

My nearest train station is 0.7 miles away.

Takes over 15 minutes to walk there on pavements and I'm a quick walker.

I hate doing it & now cycle there. Even when suited & booted. Previously used to bus it there although it cost money.

Walking there 4 times (2.8 miles)  would take over an hour and be very tiring. Even more so over fields.

Can understand Bamber not wanting to walk that distance twice in the space of 3 hours.

Cycling 4.2 miles for 20 minutes on good flat terrain, at your own pace would not be tiring at all.

I do it often enough.

So easier to drive...

Easy to drive
Easy to cycle
Easy to walk.

Each one comes with its own pros and cons.

Physically not easy to walk. Or quick.

Bamber would need to be physically and mentally alert. For 15 hours.

Lots of work to do before, during and after the massacre.

Spending over an hour walking 2.7 miles across fields will tire him out. And he hasn't even got inside WHF yet!

Hopefully Rob will retract from his long term view that Bamber walked. Believe he is the only person who believes this.

He said 2 days ago cycling 'is not impossible' which is a start!

He does not believe Bamber would use his own car to drive.
