My view is there was enough ambient light & he knew the route. It was a 20 minute journey on good terrain.

The most practical answer is either using the ambient light. Or wearing a powerful light helmet. Or both.

But as said, you would drive & let yourself in with the key. After Nevill & June didn't bolt the door.
