Bamber's walking route going in a straight line across fields is 2.2 miles.

This does not involve going near any properties once he has gone through the church on Church Street.

If wanted to exit out of his back garden to avoid properties on Head, Fish & Church Street, that would add on another 0.6 miles.

Can't see him walking it.

Again same as the cycling, too much pissing around. Time consuming.

Why is walking or cycling 'pissing about'?

Nothing wrong with 30 minutes of doing that for over 500k.

But appreciate you are more reckless.

The guy had a car. It's quicker and easier.

Park on pages lane, out of view and sight, in out back in the car to goldhanger

A 2.2/2.8 mile walk, he would be reliant on all the fields being walker friendly. Together with the hedges/fences between fields not being difficult to pass.

I don't believe he would walk The Sea Wall, which was 4.2 miles. There would have been a better alternative walking route.

As far as physical effort & time goes, I would rather cycle 4.2 miles than walk at least 2.2/2.8 miles.

The Sea Wall route terrain would have also been better than the fields terrain.

But for over 500k, happy to do either!

The 4.2 & 2.8 mile routes pass no properties.

There may have been a cycle route through the fields. Using the footpaths on the edge of each field.

Doubt he could cycle through all the fields. The eventual route may take longer than The Sea Wall route with a lot of zig zagging. Although the advantage of not passing properties remains.

EP would have checked that. They went with The Sea Wall.

Maybe he Swam it, he would avoid all properties, he would avoid the walkers and Fishermen, he would go in his Wet Suit and not have to change, the Return Swim would wash the Blood from his Wet Suit, he would avoid the Sea Wall and Hedges from walking, he would avoid traffic and Nosey Neighbours looking out their windows at early morning.

Have you walked Bamber's route?

The photos and bits I have on Youtube it looks quiet during the day, let alone at 2am. Which is not surprising.

It leads to and adjoins nowhere. It is not exactly lush sand, clear blue water & surfing wave territory.

It's not the sort of terrain I'd care to walk on now, in daylight, let alone nearly 40 years ago in total darkness!

So 6 cycle routes available. Some slightly overlap.

Two of them passed no properties. Of which he needed to be disciplined.

Why is that? The bits I have seen  show it to be footpaths.

Trudie Benjamin even sat down on a footpath bench during her Sea Wall vlog!

Disciplined for over 500k.

I'm sure he would even collect June from her bible class on time for that amount.
