A Christmas murder: the case of Sophie Toscan du Plantier
« on: December 17, 2023, 03:20:PM »
An attractive French blonde is brutally slain yards from the sanctuary she created as she attempts to flee frantically down a winding bucolic boreen of West Cork clad in white nightdress, her brains left scattered amongst the spiteful brambles and briars, hit forcefully on the head by a hand wielding a concrete breeze block, her body frozen temporarily by the season's winter chill amidst the fierce crashing waves of an Atlantic Ocean backdrop, the Fastnet lighthouse flashing continually in the distance.

Was the interloper Ian Bailey the culprit, did the wealthy woman residing on the peninsula above evoke memories of his failed marriage in England, where winner took all, his bitterness emanating from that green-eyed monster of jealousy as a female once again rejected his advances, or was this a simple case of the spouse, the usual prime suspect, ridding himself of someone surplus to requirements, hiring a proxy and cashing in on a substantial insurance policy thereby?

Murder at the Cottage explores the background to the mystery in the run-up to Christmas 1996, we get a flavour of life on the Emerald Isle at that time, the twists and turns of the investigation and the conclusion the viewer is undoubtedly left with.
