Because they saw no reason to create a separate state for Jews called Israel and could not see why they should not continue to live side by side in Palestine as they had done for hundreds of years. I feel sorrow for the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank and condemn Hamas. As Gutierrez said this did not happen in a vacuum. An Elderly and out of touch PLO Led to more militant groups to be spawned  and the prevailing situation where Israel's Zionists have thwarted peace efforts every step of the way. Rabin was shot by a Jewish hardliner when a settled peace was on the cards. It is clear from the behaviour and the extension of settlements in the West Bank since that time is a continuation of the early Zionist thinking of people like Herzl who wish to expropriate land and remove Palestinians from their homes and land.

when the concept o jewish state was sugested most jews hated the idea many thought it was an anti semtic plot
