These are ultra orthodox Jews. They are against Israel purely because in it's current form it is not consistent with Rabbinic Judaism. That being it needs to be created by divine powers (or something crazy like that).

Its what they have believed for thousands and thousands of years. Its how the Kingdoms of Israel were first formed. Its how they came to exist as a people.

When atheists Jews talk about that, they don't mean it literally. Its out of veneration of their ancestors.

You see, Judaism (unlike most religions) does not evangelize or seek converts. Traditional Judaic law does not even allow converts nor does it allow interfaith marriage.

Thus they have become a distinct ethnic group as a result of how they historically lived. Its part of who they are even if they don't believe in god.

That before Zionism and the Balfour agreement the peoples of the region were happy to live and inter marry. The same happened in South Africa before Apartheid.

Suggest you read the introduction of The Hundred Years' War by Rashid Khalidi and the ambitions of The Journalist Herzl and the ambitions of the Zionist movements in Europe during the 1870' and 1880's as they worried about Antisemitism in a Cristian Europe.

Because they saw no reason to create a separate state for Jews called Israel and could not see why they should not continue to live side by side in Palestine as they had done for hundreds of years. They did not see that the Anti-Semitism at the centre of WW2 meant the Jews were entitled to a separate state
