Ive got friends who look after the hiring them out on the local canal, and they keep wanting me to have a go, I think they’re wanting me to drop in 😂😂 it’s never appealed to me for some reason. Maybe it’s better on the faster moving rivers?

Its quite relaxing meandering along and stopping off somewhere for a beer but its the polar opposite of extreme if you're looking for a buzz.  I doubt you would fall in unless you were messing around.

I've no idea as I don't know you!  You said you have a limited budget and wanted a freehold property.  So I found something I think is attractive for 200k freehold.

But do you have the sort of budget to become John Major's neighbour?
No, I don't. But I do have enough to buy a Brighton and Hove property designed by John Nash or Charles Busby, not a glorified chalet.

I do appreciate your efforts, though.

This property has caught my eye: reasonably priced, good area, cafe culture, Brighton's answer to Coronation Street really. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/171449435#/?channel=RES_BUY

Yes, but I'll have Angela Rayner to navigate when shopping in Marks and Spencer. I hope I don't catch a whiff of her fag-breath. There's nothing worse on a woman, apart from stale scent.

You said you didn't want leasehold!  Its 31 sq m with the washing machine in the bathroom.  Victorian flat conversions usually have poor sound insulation.  Brighton is overrated imo.  Its quite tacky and rundown.  Given all the London money that has poured into the place over recent years I've no idea where it has all gone.

I prefer the bungalow in St Ives.

Well, a lot of apartments have come onto the market since the new Renters Rights Act, with landlords leaving the buy to let market in droves. It might be time to pick up a bargain.

To be fair, I know nothing about St. Ives, apart from the rhyme about the man with seven wives. I wonder if he was a Muslim..

HaHa I agree, but,  living in Hove by the sea, the fresh air should sort that.  I still prefer St Ives (Cambridgeshire) any day Steve,  think of all the day trippers and Yobs running riot on the beach in Brighton!

There are some much less peopled places within a few miles of Brighton, Steve, if you're looking for a village by the sea vibe.

During the past few years whenever I considered a move back to the UK, it was hard to find a better place than Hastings for ticking all my boxes.

A lot of DFL's have bought property in Hastings. I always thought it was good value.
