I've not long got back from Perth WA. I doubt people are allowed to retire there, but it is lovely over there.

I think you need family over there or a substantial amount of money to invest in a business. No retirement visa as such.

I note Thomas Markle has relocated from Rosarito, Mexico, and is now renting a £500 per month apartment in Cebu, Philippines: https://youtu.be/tJDHwHJGsRE

If  Ecuador seems a little too primitive for some members and one doesn't wish for scopolamine to be thrown in one's face, how about Lima, Peru? It has a similar climate to Porto, Portugal, but up to half as expensive. https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=retire+to+peru&mid=50E20C8B489456A8C3C550E20C8B489456A8C3C5&FORM=VIRE

Steve, why not something Simple,  Norfolk countryside, the East coast has a better climate, you will feel safe and travel abroad at the same time.  I looked at two months A&B in Lanzarote, very good winter climate and reasonable price.  I felt very very safe moving about, and Costa Teguise was unpopulated during Winter months.

Instead your looking into the unknown that could have a trap, you might hate the decision after a short time moving to these sort of Countries,  your relying on other people’s needs and thoughts, testing things out within the UK is not as Risky?

I can see the advantages Hardy Boy. One might as well take advantage of the 90 days one is allowed in the EU countries before one has to legally leave. I suppose the authorities will be cracking down on violators of the law once they have your biometrics.

The only drawback I can foresee is leaving your property unattended for three months. I suppose I could pay someone from the village to look after the house, but an empty property is still a target for burglars unless someone is there 24/7.

I left my house for 8 years Steve, I paid the guy across the road to cut my grass and look after the house, he would go in to check and use my bins to put out. You could leave for an hour and get robbed Steve, don’t have anything to Rob is the best way 😂😂

I'm a similar build to this guy, but I have to confess I rarely buy the clothing there: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/evbrchhxMa4?feature=share

I digress. I've come to the conclusion that I've more affinity with Northern England that I had imagined. It's something I can't quite put my finger on. This village is definitely on my shortlist, now narrowed down to around four or five locations. https://youtu.be/Gp4piHcSX-g

Does anyone else recall the acronyms of the 1980s?  I was often looked up and down and described as a YUPPY by contemporaries and general public alike.

I had forgotten about the HENRYs. https://www.standard.co.uk/lifestyle/henrys-high-earners-not-rich-yet-london-struggling-b1238642.html

On second thoughts, I wouldn't mind working at Jarrolds once retired, but there would have to be a Santa clause, giving me numerous coffee breaks throughout the day: https://youtu.be/UX1ahncpqvY

The joys of cycling, Night time or early morning cycling along the tree laden former railway lines converted into paths. Unbelievable the hidden nature it reveals………Some friends of mine usually do a dusk to dawn cycle ride on winter Solstice.

There’s something deeply grounding about moving through darkness with your own pool of light. The world narrows to what matters: the rhythm of pedalling, breath, tyres on the trail. No noise, no pressure, no commentary,  just presence. That stillness you feel isn’t empty; it’s alive. And those flickers of reflected eyes in the beam? They remind you that you’re passing quietly through a world that’s usually hidden, not dominating it.

That to me is retirement, having a base to live, but not beholding to stay!  Freedom to move but no timetable to return.

Very poetic Hardy Boy. Many are now stuck in crowded urban areas they wish to escape from. Every time I shop in Manchester I see individuals whom I perceive to be asylum seekers, which I don't mind if they are genuine and grateful to the host country, but more and more I'm sensing resentment against people like myself, taxpayers who have grafted, done the hard work and achieved a modicum of success. Some think now they've reached our shores they've made it, when nothing could be further from the truth.

On another note I was surprised by some of the places on the following list: https://www.msn.com/en-gb/travel/news/13-uk-towns-that-constantly-appear-on-lists-of-britain-s-worst-places-to-live/ar-AA1T81dY?ocid=msedgntp&pc=U531&cvid=6952a4b1f4e94f2caf5ba2327dc41bef&ei=9

I note that a whole host of diseases are prevalent in Ecuador, such as dengue, malaria, Zika and Yellow fever to name but a few. It seems it's almost impossible to satisfy everything on one's wish list.

This does come close: https://www.properstar.pt/listing/112140293?searchId=412316677&utm_source=emailalerts&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=search-alert

However, I can't help but think that if a property is in too remote a location one is susceptible to becoming a victim of crime, one incident in particular standing out in my memory: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/mar/30/british-couple-found-shot-dead-at-their-home-in-spain-alicante#:~:text=Former%20British%20Olympic%20diver%20and,Benidorm%20in%20south%2Deast%20Spain.
