It's often thought erroneously that the final words of King Charles' great-grandfather George V were "bugger Bognor", when it was suggested by his private secretary Arthur Bigge that he should convalesce there. In fact, he did make that rather vulgar remark, though during another bout of illness he suffered in 1929.

Today Bognor Regis offers much the same fare as most seaside resorts, including Sheiks nightclub, for Adam, ILB, cambridgecutie and her bestie to dance the night away. https://youtu.be/xD-os8anQJ0

I've been hearing mixed reviews about Bournemouth, Dorset, with locals plagued with antisocial behaviour of one kind or another: https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/seaside-town-overrun-by-yobs-leaves-locals-forced-to-set-up-vigilante-to-tackle-rampant-crime/ar-AA1K6TKr?ocid=msedgntp&pc=U531&cvid=90c8b0e613714e9195f16adf925ba71f&ei=12

Officially it's still a top destination for retirees, or maybe they've all moved to Christchurch to escape. I wouldn't know. https://youtu.be/GmwXj5jqJyE

Did vandals set fire to Arthur's Seat? I was giving Edinburgh another look given comments on leasehold flats, which don't exist in Scotland. One also has a compact, walkable city, free public transport seven years before Manchester, access to the NHS and many historic places to visit, as well as an airport if one wishes to travel further afield. https://youtu.be/anqQspL8Mzs

Edinburgh is lovely but it is has a large section of the population which is very deprived.  The drug problem is enormous.

I'm finding that along the South Coast too, though. I do like the invigorating sea air, and Portobello would only be a three-mile bus ride away. https://youtu.be/fjif_P9NOlU

It could be a good choice.

Christchurch is lovely, but with its close proximity to the New Forest, expensive. Wonderful walk from Hengistbury Head to Mudeford.

Maybe more suited to someone with an ecclesiastical bent, untroubled carrying an umbrella and who likes a drop to boot, this small, compact city with a population of 11000 might be worth taking a look at. https://youtu.be/yVCkgioPI9U

It's not my intention to cover all seaside resorts, but there's a ranking list here should one need a guide: https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/newsmanchester/mapped-the-best-seaside-towns-in-england-and-wales-in-2025-revealed/ar-AA1L7zCy?ocid=msedgntp&pc=U531&cvid=afe101750c874b5ebb8201ba2ffb7fe4&ei=9
