As I think you know HB I lived in Skegness for four years long ago.  I saw some of the same entertainment acts that you did I think. I am not sure Steve would have approved!  I know it has changed a lot.
I've found somewhere in your upmarket Hove. An emotionally-damaged woman who's been round the block and a young couple who prioritize the dog before the child, impervious to Kirsty's hints they should relinquish. https://youtu.be/jKWAL5OLBYY

You must be tone deaf Steve, such a captivating truly Authentic Voice.  He was the manager at the Mine.

His Nickname was EFFNER, he had a really bad head injury when he was younger,  he used to pack the Pubs and night clubs out and everyone had a really good time, a big night club he played at, said they had never sold that many tickets before, he once made and appearance on stage riding a Donkey, singing Rhinestone Cowboy.  He appeared on television as well.  He absolutely loved what he was doing, he was so bad but brilliant.

After 4/5 pints Steve he sounded better.  He loved the attention he got,  I never knew whether he was aware how bad he was or if he really thought he was good?

Eleven miles from Brighton, twenty-three minutes by train and stepping over the border to West Sussex we find the calmer resort of Worthing, immortalized by that famous "handbag" line by Dame Edith Evans in Oscar Wilde's 1895 play The Importance of Being Earnest. https://youtu.be/nRZnPJkcfsU

Worthing is much nicer than Brighton, although with a generally older population.  If you are in the area also have a look at Shoreham.

It looks a bit soulless to me, though it's better than Rochdale I suppose. I remember the air show accident. https://youtu.be/f545k1gqO7A

I remember the last horrific airshow accident and saw the aftermath.  I also saw the fatal hurricane crash a couple of years before.  That was upsetting.

If you are touring the area you should visit Arundel.

I haven't got that far yet, at least here in England.

The rover in me is looking seriously at South America, and Paraguay has caught my eye. A quieter pace of life, a culture not dissimilar to ours and friendly people make this destination a serious contender for retirees. I'm always enheartened by religious place names anyway, such as El Salvador, Puerto de la Cruz, the many Saint names and in this instance, Asunción. https://youtu.be/kuooERNvOX0

Some of these places are very quaint villages, though possibly more for an afternoon visit than to spend one's retirement. https://youtu.be/-cpJRiwZqxc
