We don't know how the tragedy unfolded, Sheila could have gone to the gun cupboard anytime that night maybe the twins were already shot when Nevil came down the stairs and found a distressed Sheila no one knows.

If Nevil was in fear of his life surely the den and gun cupboard would be locked?
