Essex boys murders 1995
« on: July 18, 2011, 10:57:AM »
The case of the Essex boys murders of 1995 was one of the main reasons i came to find this site.
It yet again shows Essex police force in a dim light, with their investigations.
Mick Steele and Jack Whomes were jailed for life for the murders of 3 drug barons in Rettendon Essex.

My son read the book. Can't remember who it was written by, but he met the author at a bookshop at Chelmsford.

Micheal Stone did not commit this crime. Funny how the name of Micheal Stone comes up.
The father of lea betts knows the truth.[the father was a police oficer]
Stone had never been convicted of violent crime, he was mostly concerned with drugs.
The bloke that turned Stone in was given immunity, so many similarities with the Bamber case.

I got caught up in this after meeting a girl at Dukes Nightclub in Chelmsford at the time. She was a friend of Tony Tucker and he was the supplier of her stuff...I know to my cost because she was a bit more than I could handle. Though I did try.

I did meet Tucker and Tait at the bar in Dukes one evening, but only for a few minutes. It seemed like they owned the place. Dukes was packed some nights, maybe a thousand or so party animals and it seemed like I was one of only a few not on anything.

It took me a while to work out what I was dealing with.

We had some crazy situations back then.

On one occasion I took ******* home after an evening out in Chelmsford and all the roads were blocked off around her house in Great Baddow. There were at least 20 police cars.

It was a massive drug raid, ( all her friends up and down the road were on gear too ),  but she never mentioned what they might have got from her place.

The stuff going round in big numbers was E's, she certainly took plenty at the time - kept an ample supply in her handbag and back then no one bothered much about hiding the stuff.

They didn't search me during the Saturday night raid, I turned the car round and drove back to Colchester.

******* was a friend boxer Nigel Benn. I met him too. He was a gentleman and very polite.

I'm off to walk the dog and will try and remember some of the things ******* mentioned back then.

For Michael Stone......read Mick Steele, who along with Whomes was sold down the river by a certain Darren Nicholls.

That's the bloke who wrote the book. Bernard O'Mahoney. I think he was a bouncer at Raquel's nightclub in Southend. Also a body guard for a few celebs like Nigel Benn. My boy thinks he knows more than he's letting on. He was at a book signing at Chelmsford when my son bought his book and O'Mahoney asked if he wanted it signed and my boy didn't recognise him. ;D

Something else...a friend of mine was inside with Pat Tate in the 1980's. It might have been at Hollesley.

Tate spent hour after hour working out and doing push ups in his cell.

One day the two of them had quite a fight in the library.

Tate came off far worse.

After that they became mates.

Back to Rettendon....I'm in touch with people who knew Micky Steele as he lived nearby in Great Bentley.

They don't think he or Jack did the shootings.

Drug transportation was more their line.

My friend ******* was visiting a 64 year old in Chelmsford Prison days after the murders.

She always maintained that he knew who was responsible but he never told her.

It sounded more like a gangland hit from South of the Dartford Tunnel than Betts and members of EP firearms squad. Having said that though, there was a police delay in arriving at the crime scene. The shootings were reported 2 hours before the bodies were discovered from what I've heard.

I used to feel nervous in *******'s company as she was convinced we were followed whilst we were in the Chelmsford area. We might have been, but by then she was hitting cocaine and paranoid.

Grahame,If I were you,I wouldnt believe a word that Bernard O'Mahoney writes in his books. He does not know half of what he claims to know as he was never in the loop so to speak.Tucker couldnt stand him and Tucker,Tate and Rolfe all knew that he was a grass. To be honest,Im surprised that due to O'Mahoneys big mouth, that he is still alive!

Forgot to mention Grahame. If the case interests your son,I can recommend the book Muscle,by Carlton Leach. He was a good friend of Tuckers, and there is a little about the rettendon murders in there.

Jaymo.Hi by the way.

Your statement of Steele and Whomes being sold down the river by Darren Nichols.
I take it that you believe them to be innocent? Can I ask why?

Thanks Tyler. I'll let him know. I'm not interested in it myself. I remember the Retendon murders and heard about it being connected with the death of Leah Betts somehow. But beyond that I'm not really interested in gangsters and drug dealers. And tell you the truth I don't want to know much about them.
