I'm afraid I have to disagree there, Lookout. Back then, there were enough police to do a walking beat. There were enough police drivers to have them driving different types of car for different purposes. There were, unlike today, police aplenty. Nor, unlike today, did patients have to wait for hours when they called for police or an ambulance.
If there were " police aplenty " then, along with a lower crime rate, there'd have been a few spare cars around to answer the immediate calls on their given " patches " ?
