If he said and He explained that he used a knife to move the catches in order that the window could be opened from the outside.  Would it not be possible to use a knife to secure the catches on exit?

If the gap between windows was wide enough to slide the catch open, you could easily slide it closed?  Found this interesting at the bottom.
Requires a gap between the sashes to operate correctly

Attacking the centre catch,

There are two types of centre catches that are vulnerable to attack:  A simple pivot catch can be knocked across using a knife inserted between the two sashes

You do wonder why the sliding sash catch couldn't be locked from the outside as you say, but I thought the police tested it and found it couldn't be done?

The simplest solution is usually the best....a Ladder...of course there were ladders on the farm.

I believe JB is guilty! Neville would not have had time to make two phone calls....one to JB and one to the Chelmsford police..... why make two calls anyway..

Two phone-calls would have been made literally on the spur of the moment-----------the first call to Jeremy was Neville's rash decision in the hope that Jeremy wouldn't be implicated because of him NOT being present at WHF at that time.Neville was no fool when it came to the law and it would have been his first thought to have got his son " off the hook " by ringing him, by way of an alibi.

So your saying Neville knew everyone would be killed?

I know Barlow said this but how well they looked into the possibility is anyone's guess?  Sorry the statement is  upside down, can never post this one the right way up.

I wonder if Barlow was looking more for a window that would close when banging from the outside ruling out the sash type?

I thought more about the sash because the older type was always draughty and had gaps between, lifting the bottom pane up made easy entry?

Even before a shot had been fired, he phoned Bamber to give him an Alibi?

David said Neville phoned Bamber after Sheila had killed the twins and June.
'Only I know what really happened that night'.
