In fact in the article PC Woodcock says at least six other Police officers might have looked inside the gun cupboard..

Vidvic in #83 there's a reference to the silencer which was discovered resting against the box in the gun cupboard and not inside(and therefore concealed from open view). I'm still not clear whether four separate Police officers looked inside the cupboard or PC Woodcock looked inside it four times, but it does seem strange that it wasn't noticed straightaway.

I can not stress enough how hard it is to see inside the cupboard. I will try and describe it. If you get down on all fours you can see the back of the cupboard in front of you, but as it is the understairs cupboard, it actually goes much further to your right....but it is not a flat floor. There are wooded cross members which prevent you seeing anything laying on the floor behind them and you have to physically put your hand behind them and feel for objects. It goes quite a way back too....so anybody simply looking in would never see anything smaller than say, 3 or 4 inches tall as it would be behind the wooden beams. I am 5ft 10 and it goes so far back that my bum was in the cupboard before my hand reached the far right end. Hope this helps.

Even if they found the silencer, why would they think it was important - they weren't looking for a silencer at that point. There were other guns and ammunition and they didn't take that either - they had no reason to think those items related to the murders - at that point.

Just the rifle and the shotgun that they made safe------------without wearing gloves. Meaning that the shotgun was ready to fire ? By whom ? Not Jeremy,I'm sure.

OK, Lookout, where does it state that the shotgun was ready to fire?

Was going to say the same thing. Make safe is just a check....make sure it's safe.....

In #83 he says he made a shotgun safe, not that it was ready to fire?

But they could have said they noticed the silencer resting against the box but didn't examine it. It would have gone some way to allay the suspicion that it wasn't put there by the relatives some days later.

You're speaking with hindsight there though, they weren't too know it was going to become an important piece of evidence, so had no reason at that time to document it was there to allay suspicion they couldn't know was coming.

Perhaps they did see it but as they weren't looking for it, they paid no attention to it and simply didn't remember seeing it.

Does it say 'made safe' or that it 'was loaded'. Like Vic said, 'made safe' is just checking - the rest you're assuming.

Making sure a weapon is safe means making sure it is not loaded. For a semi-auto it is easy because usually the bolt/slide is open after the last round so you can see inside the chamber without the need to do anything to the weapon.
