Any trial judge's summing up will obviously influence a jury in their decision making. I doubt whether i have ever stated that it conclusively convinced a jury member.

However, the jury will be more influenced by how the case and evidence has played out in court. Here, I don't think it is any secret that JB's defence team were well beaten by the prosecution, making it easier for the jury to believe the prosecution case and prosecution witnesses came across as more believable.

I have always thought a courtroom similar to a stage and the more brilliant the actor on that stage, the more the audience is gripped by the performance. I'm in no way knocking the ability to act, it must be a necessity if the client being defended is believed to be guilty, worse still, IMO is having to tear apart the evidence of someone who is innocent for the benifit of a jury. In Jeremy's case, I feel it couldn't have been the weight of the evidence against him but the weight of the prosecution's personality and confidence.

petey you did not say conclusively but that and the silencer were the deciding factors for the jury to find JB guilty but you did give me the impression the Judge's summing up was very powerful.  Maybe I read too much into that.

The judge's summing up was powerful in that it that he put it simply to the jury whether they believed Julie or Jeremy. If they believed Julie then the insinuation was JB was guilty. Evidently 10 people believed Julie.

Personally I believe the defence team made a number of errors at trial, but that is an opinion only based on the information i have seen.

petey  I am sure you are right as you have a legal mind and will of course see things from a different perspective than me.  Little bits of information I have taken from the forum has indicated the Defence Team were weak and Jeremy did not make the best witness on his own behalf.  Who knows.

Have I to make another topic so we can discuss evidence and how it is used?  This thread is for April.

It would interesting to discuss how evidence in used in various ways and in each case as it appears in the thread? Does anyone agree with me....or shall I keep quiet and do a bit of ironing  :-\ :-\ :-\

Hi Patti, I agree, could you split the topic please  :)

April's father Paul had another 2 daughters from a previous relationship and Mark Bridger was their uncle.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/9601363/April-Jones-Police-search-quarry-and-caravans-in-hunt-for-five-year-old.html

Mark Bridger was at parents night with his daughter.  He would have to have dropped her off at home after that. I would have thought that taking his daughter back to her mums home would be the start of his alibi.

If his daughter lived in the same estate as April this could account for his car being in the area, picking her up and dropping her off.  It is also possible that the white/grey van was also in the area.  This could explain the confusion as to the vehicles, in the area at approx the same time, but not linked to each other.  :-\

So do I maggie, so do I.

I know the search teams are doing a great job and the locals are an amazing lot, but it is so frustrating that they are unable to find her yet.  I may sound foolish but I do still think there is a chance that she could be found alive.  I live in hope :)

nugnug, apparently it was a local resident that gave his name sky news and they named him on tv.  The police did not publicly name him when they first arrested him, but once sky news named him, the press picked up on it and the police were forced to confirm that the name and suspect was that of Mark Bridger.
