Favourite film of his is 'The Driver'. Good cat and mouse cop thriller with good action.  O'Neal never says 10 words when 2 will do.

O'Neal's short lines -

'Get in'.

'Give up'.

'Go home'.

'We did'.

'I don't need to'.

'How you been?'

'Pull the trigger'.

'By a cop'.

--------

Film has gained gravitas. Was on TV last night.

Steve McQueen turned down the role. He didn't want to do another car movie.

McQueen would have also perfectly suited the role.

He was good in the 1975 Kubrick film. Not sure I've seen Driver. Never seen Love Story.

I think he made a series of bad choices over the roles he took and his career just fizzled out.
'Barry Lyndon' nor 'The Driver' did well at the box office.

Thought the whole film would be on Youtube. But it's just clips.

Richard Gere could have played the part. His role in American Gigolo had the same coldness.

Wiki says it got poor reviews and did poorly at the box office. Not sure why as the action was good for 1978. Has since become a cult classic.

Thought there could have been a sequel. The Driver would have continued doing jobs.

There is going to be a Heat & Gladiator sequel. They could have done a quickie Heat sequel. Val Kilmer has formed a new crew who are doing scores. Al Pacino on his tail.

The only Ryan O'Neal film that I saw at the pictures was 'The theif who came to dinner'.
We didn't actually go to the cinema to watch this film,it was playing second feature to 'The train robbers' with John Wayne.
My dad was a big John Wayne fan,so we were all bundled into the car and taken to the ABC cinema to see it expecting a real treat.Unfortunately 'The train robbers' wasn't one of John Waynes finest movies from his later career, and the whole family agreed that 'The theif who came to dinner' was actually the more entertaining film of the two.
That was in 1973 and I was only six or seven at the time.
Dont know why it was playing second feature, maybe it was a kind of a B-movie.
Or I could be wrong, maybe it was when we saw 'The land that time forgot' a year or two later when 'The theif' was having a second run or  something. We went to see the 'Land that time forgot' because dad was also a big fan of TV westerns, and as most of you may know, the star of 'Land that time Forgot' Doug Mclure played Trampas in 'The Virginian',so that was why we went to see it.

Anyway,a wee bit of digging would probably find out when 'The theif who came to dinner' was playing, but I would almost bet my life it played second feature to 'The train robbers.

Did anyone else see 'The train robbers' along side 'The theif who came to dinner' at the cinema around 1973?

Co-pilot says 'The theif who came to dinner' was not a second feature but a stand alone movie, yet I would bet my bottom dollar it played along side'The train robbers'.Will search some more.

Co-pilot also says'I could not find any information that these two movies were played together'
Very strange,Ah,but wait a minute I will ask the same questions about 'The land that time forgot'.
