A letter that was addressed to Sheila from her natural mother was found inside a handbag in the kitchen by PC Myall on the 10th September 1985:-

We can see the handbag in question captured on the kitchen worktop close to the bullets and the telephone in some of the crime scene photographs that were taken by either Henderson / Oakey, or PC Bird on the first morning of the police investigation...
The contents of Christine Jays letter, close at hand in the kitchen, near to the table around which the parents were having a go at Sheila at around supper time, saying that she was not a fit mother, etc, etc, etc...

When the telephone suddenly became engaged at 5.55am, was it Sheila trying to contact her natural mother on the telephone? Is that why there are bloodied finger-marks on the edge of the kitchen worktop there from her bloodstained right hand and fingers?

If she was trying to make an international call to her natural mother, she would have to be put through by the operator, was this why and how the operator was able to patch the line through to the control room using the '999' system at 6.09am?

That could have been so as back then you couldn't call directly abroad like you can now. The operator would have put you through to the international calls. Because the handset was off the line would have remained open.

Lookout, I know this to have been true back in the 80's, from personal experience, I always had to be connected by the Operator! Now, the way forward, as I see it was that somebody who was still very much alive inside whf at about 5.55am, attempted to make an international call, and the only person inside the farmhouse who might have been interested in one form or another, in making such a call, would have been Sheila Caffell, to her natural mother, Christine Jay...
To me, this makes absolute sense as to why the operator by 6.09am, was able to claim that she had patched the line from whf through to the control room at Chelmsford police station using the '999' emergency system, which ordinarily she was not suppose to do, but which she did...
Now, Lookout, I have heard various rumours that in fact Christine Jay visited Sheila at whf on the night of the tragedy, and that at the material time, Christine Jay was on some sort of a European tour, and that in fact, it was she (Christine Jay) who had phoned Sheila at 5.55am, from somewhere on the continent, such as Belgium. Now, if I recollect correctly, when an international call was being made to you in the UK back in the 80's, that the operator had to speak to you to see if you were prepared to accept an international call, from wherever...
This has got me pondering...
Imagine that Christine Jay was attempting to make an international phone call to her Daughter (Sheila caffell) at lets say 5.55am, but the handset was off its cradle back at whf, what was the operator to do?

The Operator, would have discovered the phone at whf was 'engaged' because its handset was off its cradle, in response to Christine Jays attempt to contact her Daughter, Sheila Caffell via the means and the terms of a so called international call!
So...
What the operator figured out by 6.09am, was that she could patch Christine Jays international call to Sheila through directly to the control room at Chelmsford by as late as 6.09am...

Yes Mike,I had to go through the operator to phone Australia in the early 80's. There was no direct connection then.
It's possible that's what had happened Mike while all was quiet in the farmhouse and Sheila's mother June out of the way,the opportunity had been there. There's a 5 hour difference in the time,so a call at 6am from here would be early morning in Canada whichever state it was though times would vary slightly to maybe a 6 hour difference but still early morning there.

The truth in this matter, was that the operator ended up doing something which ordinarily she was not legally allowed to do, by linking the open '999' call from the scene, to the control room, in somewhat bizarre circumstances! There is no way that I am attacking what the operator may have done in these circumstances, even if she was not permitted to use this tactic..

Look, I have seen a multitude of Crime scene photographs of deceased people, and there is no way that fresh looking blood could be running, leaking and pouring from the second neck wound inflicted to Sheila, even if she had been dead by 5.55am!!!
The court was conned into convicting Jeremy of these five murders, despite the fact that photographic evidence exists to prove that Sheila was not and did not get shot on the first occasion downstairs in the kitchen until around 7.35am...

Conclusion being that as we know,Sheila hadn't long been deceased when those pics were taken.

She didn't die as a result of the first shot (the original PV/20) across the neck, she died as a result of the second shot (PV/19) beneath the point of the chin!

I always thought that the alleged suicide note was one of the better avenues for the Defence to explore. I'm not quite sure if Sheila had her birth mother's number to hand on the letter in question which is the subject of this thread. I also don't know where her geographical location was at the time of the murders and note that three locations have been suggested already.
