Didn't Jeremy tell him at their meeting that he didn't wish to reside there in the future and was going to sell immediately, to which Basil countered that that might seem a little strange given the recent circumstances and urged restraint. Given that he didn't live there anyway and had handed the keys over to the relatives maybe Basil thought it was in his best interests at that stage to keep in with both parties.

as he was the bamber solicitor not the eaton or bout flowers solicitor he should of been trying to keep in with both party's.

I think he might have signed off the valuables the relatives took for safe keeping. He was also present when they found the silencer. If you wish to read anything sinister into that then be my guest.
