As polarized as are our views about Jeremy, the one thing on which we ALL seem to agree is the role Julie played. I thought it would be interesting to see a compilation of our feelings on her rather than spread across numerous threads.

This is a difficult one because I am afraid I do not believe all of her testimony . But for the purposes of debate I think she had the ideal opportunity to tell the police when she went to Identify the twins . She was alone with the police and she herself said because of the build up of Jeremy behaviour she knew he had done it on the night .
So as she did not ( and I can not for the life of me understand why seeing those poor children would not trigger her moral compass )- I think there must be a reason why she did not take that opportunity . And I am afraid IMO it must have been a selfish one .
So I must assume if he is guilty she could see the advantages of his inheritance
If he is innocent she did not go to the police immediately because she did not suspect anything .

can I say that in respect of "love" if I thought anyone of my children had committed murder - even one let alone 5- I would shop them without hesitation.
-
How didn't she manage to fall apart at the sight of those children ? Unless it's just me.
I've seen deceased children who've died of an illness and it's not something I ever got used to as I cried each time, more with some than others depending on their illness.
I was okay with everything else, but when a child passed away it was dreadful.

Jan, I once DID shop someone -there were no children involved and it wasn't murder- because I didn't want my family and I to be dragged into something about which we knew nothing.

Me too Jan.

Jan/Lookout, what do you think I could have added to my list, which presently isn't there?

Whatever it would have taken to have got a true confession out of her. Continuence of questions, regardless of the crocodile tears, which were shed for herself and Jeremy in a sick sort of a way.
The defence didn't come down heavy enough because of her " whingeing ". ( Purposely ) so that they would stop, her knowing that what she, herself was doing/saying was WRONG !!
The woman was an annoyance and crafty with it.
-
Julie knew that there was safety in numbers and also the fact that she'd feel under an obligation to everyone whether she told the truth or not, then there was the matter of the bribe. £25,000 would have kept looming up in her mind, which at that time meant more to her than Jeremy,so it was all downhill from there.

Lookout, the question asks what you think of Julie's behaviour NOT what could have been the course of action against her.

1 and 3 are essentially the same. She didn't just not rat Jeremy out because she loved him and didn't wan him to suffer she wanted him not in jail so he could be with her. Love has a selfish component. Selfless love is doing something like sacrificing your own life so they can live.

The 25k was offered over a year later. Mid trial I believe. After Jeremy had accepted his NOTW deal.
Did she deserve it ? Certainly. Thread post already posted today.

Identifying the twins ? Was that on the massacre day ?
Perhaps she was in shock and disbelief. Oh yes and she was Jeremy's girlfriend.
Had she spoken to Jeremy much by then ? Probably not, he was too busy being all pally with the police and relatives.

Thought when they met in Bourtree Cottage the day of the murders he laughed and said he should have been an actor. He had already told her, all was going well etc. so how dim was she? Of course she knew even if she found it hard to comprehend, shock has strange reactions but for all that a week or so later she would have been in a different place, she hadn't lost her family..... no it's all wrong imo.

A week is you're view. However it took her a month. Once she went to the police she has never retracted.

It seems to me she compounded the wrong by attending the funerals, when she must have known by then the perpetrator and the very reason why the charade was taking place.
-
She didn't show any sort of " fear " or discomfort at the funeral, considering she " knew ". only on being questioned by the defence did she perform her party piece.

As I said earlier -and I confess that it's with hindsight- they were rather like a pair of ham actors, his performance being OTT and she having to make hers equally OTT to match his.
