Here is the link the a live web cam. The eruption is not big - maybe it will get bigger.

Refresh if link doesn´t work - sometimes the connection goes down.

That's going to get scarier for the poor people living there. What a nightmare.
-
Crikey it was only a couple of years ago all the planes were grounded because of the ash....Scary!!
-
I don´t think people up there are actually scared - they think it is exciting. It is worse for me being in another country thinking about my relatives there!
Anyway - no people live close to this.
BUT, you never know what happens, it can all blow up big time!
Picture on webcam is good right now.
-
I'd be a little worried too Alias. Does this volcano erupt on an a regular basis? I'm sure the scientists will know if its about to blow....It wont let me view the webcam :( :'(

Patti, I can´t see it eiter, not now. Very irregular, but saw some great footage earlier.
Scientsts cannot really predict what will happen. They can just record all the earthquakes (thousands and thousand!), measure the stream, such things, but they have no idea what will happen tomorrow.
This is a highly active volcanic area. The whole system is HUGE. There are many volcanoes - some years in between eruptions, but irregular.
Just checked the cam - it is on now!
-
New, still hot lava (earlier today). They were afraid to be so close - and they were lucky, it started erupting again right after they left!

I can see it now :) Is this the same one that erupted a couple of years ago?

No, the other one is further to the south-west.
-
Footage from yesterday - they are very close to the eruption and liquid lava, they can hardly breathe. If they had stayed longer, they would have damaged their lungs.

Yes except when a volcano pops up at the bottom of your garden as some Icelanders have experienced in the past. ;D
