What the 'questionable activities' JB was invovled in whilst in New Zealand and Australia ?
And why he needed a relatively prompt exit from either country ?
-
Neve see any documents of evidence to prove that one! So can't help. :( :( :(

Whatever it was,if authentic,it had no relevance to the murder case.
-
It might have , if JB staged the break-in at the caravan site then maybe it eludes to his ability to act and elaborate crime scenes

RB even paid a private detective to find out, but I don't believe there's any solid evidence, just that he needed to get out quick. He asked his parents to send cash, but I believe they refused and sent a ticket.

I don't think so,bg. A foreign country,an act of bravado along with his friend. Nothing more. It doesn't make him out to be a criminal, nor a murderer. It was a foolish and immature prank,,,to which,if it had been serious enough, the police would have met them at the airport before flying off.

Hi lookout I think Jeremy and Julie were a pair of rascals and did behave very badly but to me this does not make him a cold hearted killer :(

Hi Susan,,,indeed it doesn't. Most of these " school-boy pranks " are over and forgotten as they get older and are very much regretted by most,,,and it shouldn't always set a precedent that such behaviour will continue into the future. Give a dog a bad name shouldn't always follow.

Hi bg if you read wikipedia it has this to say After school, Bamber managed to persuade his father to finance a trip to Australia and New Zealand, where Nevill paid for him to do a scuba diving course. While in New Zealand, he reportedly broke into a jewellery shop and stole two expensive watches, one of which he gave to a girlfriend back in England. He also boasted, according to Powell, that he had been involved in smuggling heroin overseas. One of his cousins later said Bamber ended up leaving New Zealand in a hurry, because friends of his had been involved in an armed robbery.

seems to me the makings of a career criminal here , some may think it nothing more than 'schoolboy pranks' but many serial killers have had the same early life as this

The suggestion to my mind at least is just to show him in a very bad light and rotton all through. The blacker you paint a person's character the more people will say he was capable of the murders. Very carefully calculated I'd say. But to suggest any such wrong doing by the relatives then along come their knights in shining armour to defend them. ;)

Well do you think it is in his genes and therefore stems from his natural parents? Or was it his parent's fault for brining him up wrong? But obviously it was because he was not of the bloodline of that family.
-
Hi BG we could say then we had the makings of a career criminal with Julie as well as her track record wass not the best at all.

Doesn't apply to her. Because she sold her story to the press for 24'000 quid and was able to go to a posh school and make a new career for herself and become a respectable teacher wasn't she?

I am aware this is going off topic but i thought this was interesting? I think this is a letter that starts the investigation into jeremy? might have been shown before so app if it has. Dear Bobby,
I prefer to put this down on paper rather than speaking to you on the telephone…
My son Rob contacted Witham Police and was asked to go in and see them yesterday, which he did. He saw the Inspector Miller, Smith the Sgt., and another inspector.
Rob was with them for about an hour.
The points which Rob brought to their notice were as follows - I will not go into detail but I have the notes on each point…
1/ The telephone call to J.
2/ The motive.
3/The gun and the fact that J had previously professed distaste for blood sports and rabbit shooting.
4/ The registered letters.
5/ Sheila's nature.
6) The actual shooting.
7) The alibi - J's.
8) The T.V. programme I spoke to you about.
9) J frequenting pubs involved with drugs.
10/ J - leaving Australia in a hurry.
11/ The time of the incident - apparently 3 am is a strange time for these things to happen.
12/ The possibility of using Sheila's past history to throw suspicion her way.
13/ The number of people - apart from members of the family who have voiced doubts. I know of 3.
Rob said that he was listened to very carefully and Miller and Smith gave him a good hearing….
However… Rob came away with the distinct impression that, despite all he had said, they were more anxious to close the case - in the way the facts point at the moment – than to dig deeper…
He was most upset to find that, following the interview, that he was being shown out of the station, he nearly bumped into J. who was coming in to see the very officers Rob had been talking to. The police were expecting J. and Rob was not at all impressed by their lack of foresight, Jeremy could have recognised our car which Rob used…
Sorry to have to deal with this at such length but I am sure that you will want to know all that went on…
I have Rob's notes if you want more detail…
Yours

Hi HMEssex
I believe the cousin to be the sister of Chris Nevill. Apparently NB had left some money with her during a previous visit to New Zealand and a disagreement between JB and and CN's sister arose. I don't know how reliable this is as I gleaned it from Wilkes' book :). No mention of the sister's name :-\
-
Hi Ralph thanks for the interesting post. I will have to read several times to know what it is about as this is the first I have heard of this.
I will get back to you later to ask you the points I am not clear on. Thanks my friend. :-*
-
Robert Carr (a met officer I believe) went to the police with a list of RWB's suspicions and the letter to RWB from Jim Carr (Roberts father)was regarding the outcome/content of Roberts conversation with the police.

Thanks for that. Haven't read the Wilkes' book, personally.
Chris Nevill - that's a new name for me - so confusing all these similar names!
Jeremy's trip to NZ is interesting in that he went to, obstensibly, travel, observe farming techniques and try out scuba diving (which he was unable to persue due to his cracked skull), plus he already had relatives there to visit (don't we all!), yet somehow he met Brett, managed to get involved in stealing watches, imported heroin and be on the fringes of an armed robbery so had to leave in a hurry!!
How long was he there for exactly?

Hi HMEssex
Well funnily enough yeah...I have a Scottish cousin who emigrated to Queenstown 5 years ago partly for the skiing and I'm visiting later this year. Have you been?
Meeting Brett just seems a normal run of the mill thing ie hook up with someone whilst travelling. RB had him checked out via DC Barlow and a police liaison officer at New Zealand house. They confirmed Brett had no criminal record.
Given the above if there was any substance re jewellery (watches) theft, armed robbery, heroin smuggling surely EP would have been onto this.
I'm not sure JB had to leave in a hurry as such. It appears JB had some sort of disagreement with CN's sister over NB's money and left. Apparently he got as far as the Middle East and then had to ask his parents for money.
All of the above appears to have been added to Wiki only a few months ago :-\
NB seems generous to a fault eg gifting more of his mother's property to AP and JW than he legally had to. Then loaning them money for renovations. And purchasing land on behalf of AE and PE, which they were then to purchase at a later unspecified date. He also appears to have been very generous to SC and JB. So it wouldn't surprise me if some of NB's money had for whatever reason been left with CN's sister :)

Although wiki is good for general searches I would never trust all its contents to be cosha. The general public do the write ups...
There is absolutely no evidence to back up the story of theft ect....It is all hearsay! :) :) :) :)

Hi Patti,,,as I'd mentioned earlier,,had there been any thefts of that nature, then the police would have been waiting at the airport to arrest them.
I can't understand where all this is coming from,,,but know why,,,and it's to push Jeremy further and further in the mire.

Hi Lookout :)
I think you are right...It would be something Jones would have definitely brought up time after time in his interviews with Jeremy. Hope you are OK...I am off to bed, its been a long day. Speak tomorrow and roll of Friday! :) :) :) :)

Hi Ralph
It's getting close to my bedtime but I'd like to just quickly respond to 5, 9 and 12:
9 - I think you will find since the 60's recreational drugs are widely used throughout society. I doubt if there's a pub etc in the country that would show negative ie loos, bars, handles etc would all show up positive if swabbed. I was surprised to find a private club that I'm a member of, which is family friendly, had a drug problem :o.
5 & 12 - According to CC's book JB's extended adoptive family had no idea about Sheila's mental illness:
http://jeremybamberforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,3758.msg152032.html#msg152032
If what CC states is true and accurate then as far as I'm concerned therein lies the problem ie the family had no idea of the extent of SC's mental illness and would understandably find the tragedy unfathomable and look elsewhere :-\

Hi Ralph :)
Hope all is well :D. Get your snow Mobile out Ralph, it is on its way so they say!
In my opinion books are books Ralph and, they are like newspapers. If a writer is going to sell a good book the author has to present it with factual documents, otherwise it will never be a best seller. My book is full of facts and documents. :o :o It is based on history, so it has to be 100% factual, otherwise historians will just have a field day.....lolol It is no different from that of a crime novel....it is no use making things up. A good writer will produce evidence and speculate around that evidence. When there is no documents to back it up with, one has to think this is rubbish, its all make believe. I don't doubt that some evidence is presented in their books, but I do think we should not treat them as being the actual truth. :(
I do want to read all the books eventually, but I want to read the actual documents, that were presented at trial...Me thinks that will take forever lolol :) :) :)

Lovely to see you. Thank you Maggie and, yes I am still working on it...but, this case takes my away from it...I sometimes wish that the computer would blow up and all I had was a pen and a note pad....I do bits on it occasionally...the book already has a sequel..lol My grammar isn't good and my spelling is atrocious...it will cost a fortune to have it edit/proof read....
The weather is unreal maggie, first it is 14% at 7am in morning and today in my car it was 2%....If ever the weather had a sexuality, it must be a woman hahaahha :) :) :) :)

Nah patti snow stopping at renishaw and sunshine at staveley, your right about writers making things up, but when it comes to accusing someone of something and they had not done it, just a bit risky dont you think?

Hi Patti
my son has been writing a book for 2 years now and I wonder if he will ever get it finished as well as holding down a very stressful job he did a degree at Glasgow University so the book was put on hold but I am sure he will get there in the end. Time is his problem. How far are you with the book. I know you are a busy lady but you will get there in the end. Are we all to have snow I do hope not makes me cringe the thoughts of it. Nice to chat back to Jeremy :)

I'll snowboard down Eckington Hill to bring you some supplies, if it gets bad...:)
I think one has to be careful when accusing someone of something Ralph, if there is no proof to back it up........I will PM you in a bit, just off to make a drink and put pots away. :) :) :) :)
