Diane Jones – Coggeshall
"Dr. Robert Jones could hardly have reckoned on the consequences when he had a row with his wife Diane, 35, in the Woolpack public house, Coggeshall, Essex.
When Diane stormed out of the pub and failed to return home police questioned the doctor on and off for an astonishing 55 hours, until his solicitors were granted a write of habeas corpus to prevent further questioning.
The pub row happened on Saturday, July 23rd, 1983. Things hadn’t been going well between the doctor and his wife and he said they were on the point of splitting up. On August 2nd he reported her missing, but it wasn’t until October 21st that her body was found by a shooting party in woods at Brightwell, Suffolk.
Dr. Jones was told that the papers in the case would be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, but in April, 1984, the DPP announced that no charges would be brought against him.
In March, 1990, a new witness came forward, causing the investigation to be re-opened.
But no progress was made and no charges have ever been preferred.

Patsy Bull - Coggeshall
Less than two years after the killing of Diane Jones, Coggeshall was again stunned by a brutal murder. The victim was Patsy Bull, wife of a millionaire antique dealer, and her murderer was her husband, Wilfred.
After her body – shot at point-blank range – was discovered in the antiques warehouse owned by the family, police suspected that she was the victim of ruthless raiders. However, her husband was soon arrested and charged.
The court heard how Bull and his wife had become wealthy dealers in antiquities. Bull was cowed by his wife and for six years had an affair with a widow, Carol Scotchford-Hughes. It was a row over his infidelity which led to Patsy’s death. Found guilty of murder, Bull was jailed for life.

Hi Bloddy,
I can get into it from here without problems, but something in your system obviously doesn't like it.
Try searching on III PATH OF DARKNESS
It's a weird website, but one of the few with details of James Bell.

Chochok Eira, do you know anything about the leylines mentioned? I wonder if there is a diagram?
-
I've been reading this thread and I can't find anything out about a James Bell on the internet with any reference to a murder...excepts for a few lines quoted from Thomas Healey's book from other people. I have looked in the Timesonline. I have searched in googlebooks....and found nothing....I am not doubting that this happened...I just wish I was privy to more information.... Colin mentions in his book who Sheila had an affair with....I will have to read it again and take some notes....Good work girls....it's been very interesting... ;D ;D ;D
But while I was searching I did find snippet view of surrounding the 4 friends of Nevill that had been injured whilst he was a RAF pilot....I noticed that someone on here had said they had died....but this could be wrong...I think the book was published in 1961 and makes reference to the men being injured not dead... :-\ :-\ :-\

No I haven't Maggie. Sounds like a plan though, I could do with the exercise!!
I would like to start an off-topic thread about leylines , but as I don't know much about them, I will wait until I have more information. I don't want to steer this thread away, but leave it with me.....

Yes of course Chochok Eira, leave it with me, but in the meantime, if anyone else is knowledgeable about the subject, please may I respectfully ask if you would be prepared to create a new thread. I'm really intrigued about them.....
Thankyou

Good evening all
Does anyone know the exact date that James (Jimmy) Bell shot his wife, and then himself?
Also, what date the two guns were handed in by a Mr. Bunting?
Thankyou.

Do you mean the chaps that all later died in mysterious circumstances? I have read there was a theory about possible secret service connections between Nevill and some army colleagues who all died, one arguement was that this had something to do with the WHF murders

Hi Ajross
I found it on google books, it was a snippet...it merely said 4 were injured....I think it has been said on here that it was 4 dead...I will try and find it later tonight and post it...I can't see the connection to the murders....but, I do believe that everything should be explored.. :) :) :)

I've already answered this in a pm, Bloddy, but I'll put my reply on here in case anyone else is interested and because I should have qualified what I told you in my pm.
James and Augusta Bell both died on the same day, in the same place: Billingford, Depwade, Norfolk.
Augusta was murdered, James committed suicide.
Their deaths were registered on consecutive pages of the Depwade death register during September 1986. As there would have been an Inquest into both deaths, it's possible that they died prior to September and their deaths could not be immediately registered until the Coroner certified the cause of their respective deaths.
-
I can state with absolute certainty that James Bell killed his wife, Augusta, then committed suicide.
-
Many thanks for your replies Chochok Eira.

Do an AA route map search for a route from Coggeshall, where James Bell lived, to Billingford, Depwade, Norfolk, where James Bell killed himself and his wife in 1986 and the result is an interesting one.
The Colchester Road runs up to Ipswich, where Diane Jones' body was found and the Norwich Road runs from Ipswich to Norwich, to within just 16 miles of Billingford.
Augusta presumably lived with her parents in Norfolk prior to her marriage to James Bell? Where did Augusta and James meet, I wonder? In Norfolk? They married during 1983. Was James travelling from Coggeshall to Norwich or the Billingford area around the time of Diane Jones' murder?
-
AA route maps make it 83.6 miles from Coggeshall to Billingford, Norfolk

Someone has told me (of course it is all hearsay to me, but interesting all the same) that Nevill Bamber was being investigated for for crimes? Perhaps he and his colleagues were guilty of something during the war? But of course it is all speculation. Unless someone feels like investigating this further?
