Hi there. 15 at the time I remember the murders - and the trial with Jeremy memorably taunting the prosecution barrister.
Interest renewed by the Heidi Blake podcast. Extraordinary behaviour from the late Nick Milbank. Late in more than one sense.
If Sheila did it I'm mightily impressed considering she'd never loaded or fired a gun - and the way she kept herself so clean!
If Jeremy did it - every day he must curse himself for the Nevill phone call story.
One thing that really puzzles me is if it was used why the silencer ended up back in the cupboard.
If Jeremy wants support - he needs to publish the CCRC reasons. If he doesn't he really shouldn't expect any.

Welcome Jonathan, and thank you for introducing yourself in the foyer, a courtesy which has not always been adhered to. I suppose the main reason for Jeremy Bamber returning the silencer to the gun cupboard was that he thought its absence would be remarked upon by the relatives. It does remain a controversial part of the case. As for the purported telephone call from Nevill, the police were in effect Jeremy's alibi. He would have thought through that dilemma, plus he had to keep them out of White House Farm until Sheila, in particular, couldn't be saved. He was mindful that as a suicide he really should only use one bullet, though in his haste to get back to Bourtree Cottage he used two. He was anxious that one bullet might not be powerful enough to kill her outright.

I guess Jeremy didn't feel confident enough that the scene would persuade police it was murder suicide - so decided it was best to make up the phone call to steer the investigation. But in doing so he ruled out any possibility of third party involvement.
Another curiosity is the bedroom telephone unplugged and removed to the kitchen. I wonder when this happened? Did Jeremy do this earlier perhaps using some excuse like the kitchen one wasn't working so needed to be replaced? Clearly no bedroom phone meant Nevill could not phone 999 if he hears Jeremy breaking in. Jeremy could have disabled all outgoing calls by taking the kitchen one off the hook - but he may not have known this or did not want to risk Neville phoning 999 before the call could be stopped.

It was moved and taken off the hook to support the 'my dad called me' narrative.

The kitchen phone was working. But underneath magazines.
If the bedroom phone was in the bedroom, people may ask why didn't Nevill or June use it there.

Yes I get it. If there was a phone in a bedroom the logical thing would be June phone the police while Neville tried to contain Sheila.
