Nevill would have received some of those injuries while standing as on his left side if he'd been sitting where he was found,near the wall,there wouldn't have been the room/space to have inflicted such wounds if they'd occurred using the butt/stock ? of the rifle.
As for his trousers which I once remarked that he'd possibly come from the shower and was getting ready for bed when he was taken unawares.
