A Possible Way Of Reintroducing A Death Sentence?

There have been several posters who seem to favour a return to the use of a death penalty. There have also been offers made by those willing to do the job!!!!!, although I remain uncertain about whether they would be best suited for it. SHOULD the death sentence ever be considered for reinstatement, and bearing in mind that such work isn't everyone's cup of tea and many of those putting themselves forward would be entirely unsuitable, perhaps a new way of delivering it might also need to be considered. Such might include allowing the guilty party to administer their own lethal dose. The act would need to be overseen by whatever officials were required to attend and to verify that life was extinct. It would remove the burden of responsibility from all parties, other than the guilty.

Very good topic Jane, I read a book on a hangman, he feels sure that all the murders he hung were guilty, except one?  I’m going to keep you guessing

yes good topic jane.my views are when the case is clear cut with forensic evidence to back it up than yes it should be used.now i dont want it for the ordinary murderer unless a child is involved.take the case of the wolfpack a bunch of pedofiles from hackney abducting and killing young boys .sidny cooke was their leader everyone of them should have got the noose .yet they did long sentences and were released.my opinion is that even the mental ill ones like napper.and stockwell strangler eskine should not be in broadmoor but in a high security prison .they can just as easily take their meds in the prison.(if one doesnt want to give them the noose)

I'm reading about one now which happened 50 years ago and the monster of a stepfather had covered up the murder for all these years.
He's been allowed to live freely after having blamed the child's injury by falling out of bed------which was an accepted reason 50 years ago,except that another sibling had remembered seeing what had happened.
We can only hope that he gets battered to death inside ! If I was a prison officer,I'd turn a blnd eye.

That's not a death sentence thou is it? That basically just giving the prisoner the option to commit suicide.

Ideally its a good idea. But in practice it would be hard and expensive to implement. It would require giving an unrestrained prisoner a lethal chemical and allowing him to use it at his free will and hope he or she does not do anything else with it.

I didn't say it was fail-safe. Invariably, nothing is -although I believe that burning at the stake, and hanging, drawing and quartering had some pretty positive results- beheading has often required several swipes and a little hacking, hanging sometimes took longer than was deemed appropriate, the electric chair sometimes delivered horrendous burns prior to death, and lethal injections have been known to fail. With a bit of tweaking, ie ensuring the safety of those compelled to attend, the method I suggest might be worth a try. (Failure to comply would, of course result in some sort of stiff forfeit) Would all volunteers step forward, please.
