This is one of the reasons why the neighbours from down the street, have targeted me, amongst other things:-

That's what one mum said about Barnsley Council after her warnings that a new housing development has turned her quiet cul-de-sac into a traffic hazard.
Gemma Crookes, who lives on Fenn Road, Tankersley, said the new 20-home development had extended the cul-de-sac and meant twice as much traffic was now fighting to get through.
She said: "Fenn Road was a quiet cul-de-sac and kids got used to playing out on the street. Now they've put new pavements in, which has narrowed the road, and there are big lorries coming through delivering topsoil - they have to go up on the pavements to get past.
"The speed limit is 30mph which is much too fast for the amount of traffic now coming through."
Mrs Crookes is calling for traffic calming measures and she and other residents have voiced their fears to the police who referred them to Barnsley Council's highways department.
Mrs Crookes, who works part-time at a hair salon, said: "Highways told us there have been no accidents on the road for the last three years, and if anything happens, we have got to phone the police. Has a child got to get killed before they do anything?"
She said her eight-year-old daughter and other local children had made posters and leaflets appealing to drivers to slow down, and were delivering them door to door in Fenn Road.
"We would like 10mph signs or speed humps - at 5pm it's like the M1 here," she said.
She claimed the new estate was also putting pressure on drainage and sewage systems. "The street smells of sewage - we think a sewage pipe has been wrongly fed into a rainwater drain."
Barnsley Council said any speeding issues should be raised with South Yorkshire Police.
Cllr Roy Miller, cabinet spokesman, said: "While road safety remains a key priority for the council, we no longer have the funding available to finance physical traffic calming schemes, such as road humps.
"We will carefully monitor the area and if there does appear to be issues with speeding we will work with our police colleagues to address them.
"As to the sewerage and drainage, the new housing estate has been through the full planning process, which takes drainage into account.
"If people in the area identify specific issues they should report them to us via email at
[email protected] or on 773555 and we will work with the responsible authority - be that ourselves, Yorkshire Water, or the developer - to sort them out."

Come on love the lorries are going to stop coming through once the work has finished not like they are building a factory is it.Maybe as a parent you should be teaching your kids some road sense

it just highlights a problem faced all over the borough, new housing is needed but unfortunately builders want to sneak houses in some tight spots, a gap between two houses suddenly becomes a road leading to 100 houses. the tankersley area has single lane roads leading in to it, going in to pilley you take your life into your own hands yet more houses are being built and more are waiting for planning. all this is fine but the roads need widening, street lighting , amenities need upgrading too but these issues never get done like all round the barnsley area. So i do agree with the lady worrying about her children the whole area needs looking at and not just some house builder finding a bit of cheap land and banging a new settlement up, just sayinPosted by Chsrlie on Monday October 21 2013 at 15:32
Maybe you should teach your children not to play on the street and use your drives rather than park on the road I think you will find as the building work has nearly finnished the only large vehicles will be bin wagons.Posted by kylie on Monday October 21 2013 at 15:38
Exactly. If my child were 8 and the road on which they play was busy they would be in the garden and not on the street. It is her responsibility as a parent to ensure the safety of her child which doesn't just mean moaning about the street being busy.Posted by Rebekah on Monday October 21 2013 at 15:46
Why should she teach her kids road sense?? If you read it it says that her kids and others on the estate play on pavements, which is totally acceptable if there's no park, when I was growing up I was always playing out of the garden asking as I was in before dark, what if this lady has no garden it's common these days kids should be able to play on a pavement safely without an issue of a lorry mounting the pavementPosted by DaveE on Monday October 21 2013 at 16:03
There's no reason why traffic through a residential area should be going more than 5mph. Ok, so they can't play on the road any more, but kids shouldn't be in fear of being mown down by some b**d who doesn't give a toss about the people who live there.

I am almost certain that it was criminal and would be in the public interest to pursue.

No wonder the council has no money when in the pass they have wasted money on project like this woman wants. I live in Millhouse green now if you want to see an accident waiting to happen come here
We have Manchester road that runs through the village it has 40mph limit it has lorries taking short cuts to and from the m1 that are using woodhead pass we also have No crossing or crossing patrol for the school
There is more of a chance that a kid is going to killed here than on your streetPosted by Dave E on Monday October 21 2013 at 18:04
Show some solidarity. Why should anyone care about your problems if you're not interested in their kids safety?Posted by lee c on Monday October 21 2013 at 22:11

If people park correctly on fenn road and walker road and not cause hazards it will reduce risks. People park on corners. Going up fenn road you can't go fast due to incorrect parking, in the last month no lorries have gone up fenn road it's just reckless parking that's causing the problems.
