Before he was told his family was dead then. In that case, it means nothing.
Not at all: it's more damning the remarks came when they did. It illustrates that he knew all occupants of the house were dead and none of them could gainsay any of the lies emanating from his mouth at that stage. It's also an indication of how he was going to proceed in the aftermath.
I don't agree with that. He's just talking while they're waiting, and the police officer encouraged him to do so. Besides, all that is from a book. Are there any statements about it?

That's not surprising, since we don't have it in the archives.
How does it mean nothing? If he killed them he knew they were dead.
If he didn't kill them, he didn't know they were dead, or he hoped they weren't. The point is that it's not evidence of anything.
