http://jeremybamberforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,7311.msg346729.html#msg346729There is already a thread about why Bamber chose to use a proxy after Julie asked him if he did it. It's a common sense move by him.
There are several reasons why Matthew Macdonald was the chosen proxy - Bamber knew MM.
Julie knew Bamber knew MM.
Bamber confirmed in his police interviews there were many rumours about MM.
Bamber would have told Julie about the MM rumours.
Julie may have heard from other people about the MM rumours.
Julie had met MM very briefly, so knew he was a real person.
MM was not going to be part of Bamber's jolly up crowd after the massacre.
Bamber told Julie MM was going away after the massacre. This would be believable as after the massacre & while with Julie, he could easily avoid MM.
There was no way Julie could locate MM.
Julie barely knew MM so could not have an opinion on whether MM was capable of committing the massacre.
Julie would not know MM's location or movements on the massacre night. And would not be able to find out.
When asked, MM said he did not know who Julie Mugford was. If Julie approached the police, MM not knowing Julie would support his stance that he did not know Bamber very well.
MM lived in the area. Rather than being a London friend of Bambers.
MM had been to WHF before. Where he met Bamber & Julie.
Bamber's friends who he would engage with after the massacre would not know MM.
Bamber's remaining relatives did not know MM.
The other people Bamber had introduced Julie to over the previous 18 months, Bamber wanted to keep in contact with after the massacre. Intially while still with Julie. So were not proxy material.
The other people Bamber had introduced Julie to in the previous months, Julie knew too well & would know they would not make plausible multiple killers. So not proxy material.
Bamber couldn't make up a non existent person. Otherwise Julie would not believe him.
Bamber didn't have any other options. He needed a plausible proxy who Julie barely knew but who neither of them would see after the massacre - MM.
