Quite a simple and feasible answer.

OK, if Jeremy left the gun with the silencer on it, Nevill might have put it away in the cupboard, or he might have left it out.  Could Sheila have got hold of it, used it to kill the others, and then discovered that she couldn't reach to shoot herself with the silencer on, so she put it away in the cupboard. Is that too far-fetched?

Kaldin sorry I think your theory is far fetched why would she put it away in the cupboard and why would Jeremy put it away before cleaning it IMO the silencer was not used by the perp.

Jeremy was caught with the lie that the murder weapon wouldn't fit into the gun cupboard with silencer attached.

It's not really as far fetched as it sounds considering Sheila was not thinking rationally. But I personally don't think that happened for a whole range of reasons.

David you could be right Sheila may have put the silencer away but why would she want to use one I think she had nothing on her mind but the rifle and using it and NGB has said the rifle is not a loud noise when fired.

There's no need to be sorry Susan, I'm just voicing some thoughts.  :))

I agree with what you say generally, although either scenario is possible. I think the presence of the blood in the silencer does indicate that it was used.

Is it also possible that someone else put the silencer away, not thinking that it was signficant?

I mean how did the relatives examine it?

They looked at it.

Kaldin did not want you to think I was being rude saying your theory was far fetched ;D the blood in the silencer is far beyond me but I am convinced it was not used in the murders I have read all the possible theories but I am at a loss

Why would Jeremy put it away and not get rid of it?

Was her blood in it though?

Here's what was said in 2002 re the silencer when it was examined at the time:

Quote
Mr Hayward, the forensic scientist said that they showed that the blood could have come from Sheila Caffell but not from any of the other individuals involved. Mr. Hayward said that there was a possibility that the blood could be a mixture of blood from more than one person and if it was, a mixture of blood from Nevill Bamber and June Bamber could account for the findings in the grouping tests. However he judged that possibility to be a "remote" one.

Here's what was said when it was tested years later:

Quote
On the 6 March 2000, the Commission was informed that the tests had identified the DNA of at least two people inside the silencer and that there was both male and female DNA present. The female DNA was stronger than the male DNA and was present all the way through the inside of the silencer.

Quote
i) June Bamber's DNA was in the sound moderator at the time of the DNA examination;

ii) Sheila Caffell's DNA may have been in the sound moderator but it was not possible to conclude one way or the other whether it was; and

iii) there was evidence of DNA from at least one male.

You weren't being rude.  ;D I think it's quite far-fetched too, but not totally impossible. I'm also at a loss re the blood and/or DNA in the silencer - it's all quite a puzzle.

Kaldin I know some posters on here with more knowledge than me can come up with a more feasible explanation than me.
