the fact they dident name this other inmate would suggest to me that nobody would have much sympathy for him if he was named.

Things like this are always happening in a prison environment. It is only because it is Jeremy Bamber that it reached the news. It is as if the man is living in a glass house for goodness sake. He can't even take a piss without it being made into a headline story. Also newspapers have a habit of sexing up stories in order to get attention and sell newspapers. In fact a bit like that shoddy bit Woffendin wrote for the Daily Mail. The headline I think was, "CHILLING NEW EVIDENCE". In fact when you read it you found it was all old hat served up as bubble and squeak.

I take your point Graham but if this is true then it's a bit beyond the average prison scuffle...

"He rammed the jagged edges of a sauce bottle into his victim's face and tried to cut off his nose and ears. The inmate's scalp was also cut open."

Details of his time in prison in this 2001 Times article. Mentions bottle attack.

In a variety of prisons, Bamber seems to have been treated in a remarkably indulgent way - despite being troublesome. At Long Lartin, Worcestershire, he was given the key to his cell and excused prison work so he could study for GCSE sociology and media studies. He had a daily badminton session after breakfast at 8am and earned extra money by having an agent outside who sold pictures of supermodels that he had drawn in art class. He boasted that he had three relationships with women inside prison (one with a trainee policewoman) and regularly received a mailbag of 50 letters a week from admiring females.

Bamber's funds were also boosted when he received "thousands of pounds" in compensation for whiplash injuries he received when a lorry crashed into a van moving him between prisons. The prison also paid him compensation when a Gameboy was stolen from his cell.

He once attacked another prisoner with a broken bottle, however, and was put in solitary confinement when he angered other inmates by revealing too much about their comfortable lifestyles to journalists. Even before Bamber created his website earlier this year, he seemed to have unusual access to the media for a convicted murderer. From Whitemoor prison in Cambridgeshire he airily called Talk Radio UK to protest his innocence.

Hmm, I wonder if you have ever studied the way jounalists construct their stories? The whole point is for them to get them read by the public and some will go overboard to make theirs a scoop. We should rather be asking the question, how did this information get out of prison into the public domain?

If this is story is accurate then it does destroy the argument made elsewhere that JB isn't violent.

I think Mike is the best person to comment on this from what I know there are two attacks one involving JB attacking someone (and I don't know about him being a burglar because I think he is still in prison and goes about bragging his scar was done by JB) and Jeremy was attacked himself.  I don't know the circumstances of the attacks but it seems to be a very dangerous place cat a as a prisoner in JB s prison someone was murdered a few months ago. I think one attack by JB in 26 years Probably shows it was over something serious but I would like Mikes opinion

What's your point? It's always been said that he has many 'female admirers'. This kind of notoriety attracts women.

Weird that he had a Gameboy.

I wonder if you would receive the same judgment as him if you tried to defend yourself from someone who has picked a fight with you. How I wonder would you defend yourself? What is this? One incident in 25 years? Not bad going if you ask me. I'd have tried to escape years ago. I don't know how the man has kept so sane all these years?

So are you saying that women are more gullible than men in this kind of thing?

I take your point, but if this incident is described accurately then it suggests he went way overboard.

Well that totally violent child killer who attacked a prisoner (for no reason) is indulged by the prison and given special privelidges does anyone really believe that article I think he would be spending all his time on segregation

Prisons do not pander to the type of people the times is describing what a load of rubbish I suppose they gave him a key at night as well so he could pop into town

The way it is phrased suggests some kind of attraction slightly beyond support for a prisoner. I could be wrong, but they imply.
So I don't know what you mean by 'gullible'.
