On 7th September 1985, during a visit to ‘Moreshead Mansions’ to collect property which had belonged to the children and albums of photographs, including Sheila’s portfolio, Jeremy pointed out to Colin Caffell that there were a number of professionally taken shots of Sheila which he may not be aware of and showed them to his ex brother-in-law. Colin described these to Essex Police saying: “The slides had been professionally taken and were of Sheila in various states of undress in a paddling pool. I think I would describe these slides as 'soft pornography' as they were quite explicit in detail. I asked Jeremy if I could take these slides so that I could destroy them. He agreed that I could take them, which I did.”

However, Caffell admittedthat he did not actually destroy the images, but instead: “I disposed of them by putting them in the dustbin. I did, in fact, place the slides into a dustbin liner and handed them to a refuse collector to ensure they went into the dustcart.” It is therefore clear that some nine days prior to Jeremy allegedly wishing to sell these photographs to a journalist, Mr Fielder, they were already in the possession of Colin Caffell, and the story about Jeremy trying to sell the pictures is wholly untrue.

Whatever the circumstances have been in this case things have been blown up out of all proportion in order to TRY and justify the man's guilt. This always happens in cases where there's either total innocence or uncertainty, and where there's pressure to secure a conviction come what may.

Thanks Bill, I had never heard that before and it certainly puts a knew light on the whole episode.  How does Colin equate this explanation with his description in his book which is totally different?

I don't know, I would imagine he said one thing to the police and published something different. It seems to have happened quite a lot in Jeremy's case. Caffell was into a well-known dispute with Jeremy when the book came out, wasn't he? But the fact is, Jeremy never had possession of the pictures.

Fielder was a former reporter when interviewed for the documentary.

He says Brett Collins contacted the paper. That is no big deal as BC and Bamber were spending all their time together & BC knew people at the paper. Fielder still had the option of saying Bamber contacted them, to make Bamber look worse. But didn't.

After the meeting the Sun published a front page story about it. Which was a risk as if the meeting did not happen, Bamber could have sued , upon inheriting.

There is no mention about this meeting at trial. Although Fielding had agreed to testify if asked. Bamber was very lucky there.
