I've seen this before. Acting as his own lawyer backfired I think.

The biggest problem with his story is that the alleged killer just ran past him. Murderers don't leave witnesses alive.

The black rage defence seemed to be right, given that Ferguson was on the borderline of insanity.  How he must have wished life had turned out differently after the deaths of both parents in quick succession, that he was standing in the courtroom representing others and being paid a salary, instead of the interminable rejections making him the nonentity he had now become. Black mayor David Dinkins may have represented an ersatz father to him, but once dispatched the defendant felt he had been given free rein to unleash the bitterness which had been fomenting inside him all those years.

This is the weakness of his story, and though it was alleged Daniel Busby could have taken a key from the daughter's purse Jerry Jones himself never identified Busby as the attacker.

I don't want to leave the wrong impression; he's a killer evil more than sick and one really cannot see henceforth what the penal system can do with him.
