He was a good suspect to fit up for the crime as far as the Police were concerned because he had impersonated a Police Officer in the past, was a danger to women, had worked at the BBC in the past, had no alibi and lived in the vicinity of the murder. But as Michael Mansfield QC states: "It has all the hallmarks of a desperate investigation."

I seem to recall that at his first trial there was an employee at a drop in centre who was admonished by the Judge for mixing up the time she saw George there, which could possibly have given him an alibi. I can't rule out George completely but if he did manage to hang around Gowan Avenue without being seen and not being picked out subsequently on an identity parade, approach Jill Dando, kill her with a solitary shot, dispose of the murder weapon then recirculate at the centre he was a lucky man.

There's more on a link to the possible murder weapon here:  http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2592741/Gun-fired-shot-killing-Jill-Dando-used-Liverpool-gangland-shooting-years-later-mystery-former-police-officer-claims.html

There was evidence that George followed a number of women around photographing them without their knowledge. Whether he was a murderer is another matter. However apart from the particle found on his coat matching the murder weapon there was a polyester fibre found on Jill Dando's raincoat which matched a pair of C&A's trousers owned by him.

I can't say how I would have decided had I been a juror without hearing the totality of the evidence and seeing George's demeanour in court, but I'm not as sure as the author of the following article.  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/2484898/Jill-Dando-murder-Only-a-matter-of-time-until-Barry-George-was-cleared.html
