Is there a case for having at least one professional juror in major crime trials?
I have been a juror on two occasions, and tbh I struggled at times.
I understand the reasons that the law requires  jurors to be selected from the general population, but most are baffled by court jargon
In Jeremy's case two were not convinced of guilt. The jury foreman was no more qualified than any other member to judge.
I am sure that many juries have been swayed for one reason or another.
The amount of people who have subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing after a jury trial means that the system is flawed.
An innocent man/woman could be convicted because the jury take a dislike for them.
I am sure people on here have had a instant dislike for someone even though they have done them no harm, it's human nature.
By all accounts Jeremy appeared brash, and cocky which didn't help him at all,but that could just mean he was confident nothing more nothing less.

I think the worst thing for any juror is to find out at a later date they convicted the wrong person

Every conviction that is overturned must have devastating consequences for the juror at the original trial especially when they were misled or had vital evidence held back from them during the trial

There should be compensation for these jurors and then maybe the CCRC would deal with cases much faster

maybe in major well publicised cases , but probably not in more minor ones. My husband was a juror andidont think hes given much thought to the case since.

Not sure (that me not being sure, rather me using your name to start a sentence Notsure ;D) how compensating jurors would have any effect on the CCRC. The CCRC only get involved when an appeal request is submitted, the jury have already given their verdict at that stage.

I agree with you, the jury do their job and aren't responsible so I am sure there are very few that end up with any kind of trauma.

That's exactly what I mean major cases where the person previously found guilty had spent many years in prison

Any normal person on a jury that wrongly convicted a person who spent many years in prison would almost certainly be affected by the misery they were partly responsible for

If Jeremy had his conviction overturned You can only begin to imagine how badly it would effect the jurors in question especially if they hadn't been given the correct facts about the case

I think he means in the eyes of the law . He is back to where he started before being charged .

So it does not prove he is innocent or guilty.

OK. The law says...................but it doesn't prevent that a knife stabbed, a gun shot, or hands strangled.

it has suprised me that no juror has ever come forward Jackie. Why is that. If it was me i would have certainly made contact with the authorities, theres a lot about this case i dont get. I think maybe its always portrayed so badly in the media so maybe thats why.

Ngb has said before there are some laws in place that the jurors cannot talk about the case after the decision. I would really like to know how they feel. They have had this case hanging over them for 30 years

Notsure, I'm perfectly convinced that there are those who ARE sure. WHY would they want to come forward and what reason would they have?

OK. Notsure admitted to being not sure and I said I was convinced that some were sure. I never said the post wasn't valid. What's you problem or are you just determined to create one somewhere -ANYWHERE?

When did I say that I'm convinced "how the jury think"?
