The west and particularly America propped up Saddam until he got out of hand and out of control, they wanted rid of him because he was no longer of any use to them, they cared nothing for the people of Iraq.imo

Any more than any politician cares about any of us. An example of which is the place -a notorious accident black spot where many deaths had occurred but nothing had been done- where M's son was killed. Within 6 weeks of his death, traffic lights were put up. Statistics required one more death before the money was spent. Sadly, J provided it.

If the penalty for fabricating evidence, and being a false witness, was a punishment, of 'hanging by the neck, in public', then I feel confident that these despicable individuals would have to think long and hard, before introducing the lies they tell. It is easy to lie in the present Criminal Justice system...

Wrongly convicted people will die, plus its even more expensive to sentence a prisoner to death than it is life in prison

Leaving money aside what do you do with people who are guilty of heinous crimes and who are just hanging around waiting to die, albeit naturally? I would like to think that some rehabilitation was possible, though if you know you're never going to be released I don't see where the balance between punishment and rehabilitation lies and this must impact on one's mental health knowing that there is no hope.
