Since no one else used the gun but him and thus no one would go looking for it- the possibilities are limitless.  Here are some possibilities- removed the scope, loaded it and left it:

1) in the closet it was normally stored in

2) in the bathroom near the other guns

3) under the pallet near the bathroom window

4) in one of the outbuildings

5) in his trunk and contrary to popular belief he drove to WHF with it in his car

This is just some of the possibilities. Where he would not leave it is out in the open somewhere people would see it and touch it because they would be highly likely to move it and might put it somewhere he could not find it.

Logic suggests he would prefer leaving it someplace he could access it right away while going through the bathroom window thus an out building or the bathroom as opposed to behind/under a couch or the like but some people hide things more than they need to.

Creating a thread on something that has already had a thread created, is mildly better than creating a thread asking what school Jeremy went to.

He may not have hidden the gun.

To create normality he may have just put it back in the gun cupboard. Neville or June may have found the hidden gun anyway. Or he may have got caught trying to hide it.

Would it have been so much more loud and difficult to take it out of the gun cupboard ? Unless Neville locked it every night.

If the gun cupboard was lockable, he would have to hide the rifle. He couldn't risk arriving and having no access to the rifle.

Why would Nevill go looking for it at 10PM at night after Jeremy left?  The gun was purchased for Jeremy anyway, Nevill used shotguns. There is no evidence of anyone using it besides Jeremy and Anthony when he tested it out during his last visit.

Perhaps Neville was putting the guns away as it's been said that's what he did at the end of the day. I'm assuming he'd have been more aware when the twins stayed there.

Even if he noticed it missing so what?  What could he do?  He would not toss the outbuildings and house till he found it.  At worst he would make sure the twins didn't have it and that it wasn't in the open somewhere they could grab it.

This simply is more that would counter Jeremy's narrative of Sheila finding a loaded gun left out with extra bullets nearby.

The ultimate "What would Jeremy have done" is the Senario of Shelia not returning from the party that night and staying round someone elses house. So Jeremy would begin the shootings then after killing his parents and the twins he goes to Shelias bedroom to find she is not there.

I doubt he would have used the shotguns. If he could not locate the gun then he would likely have abandoned the killings till another opportunity to get them all together.
